Daniel Fast Menu Planning

I have found that I am most successful fasting when I plan ahead. I don’t want to focus so much on the food, although that’s important in this fast. I want to spend most of my time and energy focusing on my relationship with our Lord.

So, I try to plan about three days of menus at a time and make sure I have everything I need to prepare the simple meals. I plan to post more than 100 recipes up on this weblog over the next few weeks, so come back often.

Here are just a few simple menus. They are all ideas for menus that you can use during your Fast:

Breakfast

Sliced fruit

Hot whole-grain cereal with raisins and nuts

Juice

Lunch

Hearty Layered Salad and Greek Vegetable Stew

Dinner

Vegetarian Chili and a Green Salad with dressing

Lentil Soup and a Green Salad with dressing

Snacks

Sliced vegetables with hummus

Sliced vegetables with white bean dip

Raw almonds or other nuts

Sliced fruit and nuts

Please add your ideas to the comment space below. I would love to add yours to this section!

I need help and ideas. Please help me! Can you give me more ideas of meal plans. Or more ways to prepare veggies/fruits?

  4. January 20, 2008 at 6:34 am

    Dear Lovebeam :-)

Do you have The Daniel Fast Cookbook? It has 80 pages of recipes and includes meal plans for 21 days of fasting. It’s an immediate download, so as soon as you purchase it you will have the book.

Also, every week I send a new collection of recipes to all the buyers, so now there are more than 100 pages of recipes, meal planning idea, and fasting tips.

Plus, six days a week I send a devotional to all the buyers of the books to encourage them and to help build their spiritual walk.

Go to “DANIEL FAST – Start Here” and you will see the book and how to order it.

Blessing to you on your fast.

Please list some of the seasoning you use in your menus?

  6. April 3, 2008 at 4:55 pm

    Hi Doretha,

I use lots of different herbs and spices. One of my standards is Italian seasoning. I also like curry, thyme, and then cinnamon for sweeter foods.

Do you have the Daniel Fast Cookbook? The recipes are so full of flavor and so much of that is due to the seasonings used.

    Bless you on your fast.

Do you have any suggestions on what to order at fast food restaurants?

  8. April 17, 2008 at 7:06 am

    Hi Cindy,

There is really very little offered by fast food restaurants that would be consistent with the Daniel Fast. If they serve garden salads with oil and vinegar dressing . . . that might work, but so much of the food in fast food restaurants included chemicals and additives that it would be hard.

You might consider packing food in a small cooler in your car, including salads, rice cakes, peanut butter, nuts, fruit and the like. There are so many healthy foods that are easy to take along when you travel.

    I hope this helps!

one of the best veggies for a fast is edamames for use in salads, snacks, soups and to make a dip for vegetables in place of hummus.

    Hi Peggy,

I am so glad you added this post! Yes, edamame (pronounced [eh-dah-MAH-meh] and are fresh green soybeans) are a flavorful and healthy snack. One of the ways I especially like is seasoned edamame. Here’s the simple way to prepare them:

    Spiced Edamames

3 1/2 cups of edamames in the shell. You can use either fresh or frozen pods.

3-4 tablespoons virgin olive oil (use the kind for sauteing)

Thai, Spike or other seasoning (Make sure you read the ingredient list to assure it is sugar-free and chemical-free.)

    1 teaspoon minced garlic

1-2 tablespoons soy sauce(Make sure you read the ingredient list to assure it is sugar-free and chemical-free.)

Heat olive oil in frying pan over medium heat.

Add edamame pods and saute until heated and then add seasoning and garlic (add a bit at time so the flavor is to your liking)

Stir beans and seasoning until the pods are well-coated.

Add the soy sauce and stir until thickened (1-3 minutes).

Serve as “finger food.” The pods are flavorful . . . eat the bean inside and discard the pod. Yumm!

Thanks again for bringing this great food to our attention!
