“Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.” Daniel 1:12
“In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant food, no meat or wine came into my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.” -——Daniel 10:2, 3
Welcome! The purpose of this site is to offer valuable and complete information about the Daniel Fast. As the Daniel Fast Blogger, my #1 goal is to help you have a successful fasting experience. More and more Christian men and women are choosing the Daniel Fast as their guideline to enter into the spiritual discipline. While the Daniel Fast is a partial fast, (rather than total abstention from all food) it still provides many of the attributes of denying the self and seeking God.
This blog is designed as a “gathering place” for information and resources about the Daniel Fast to serve those seeking God in this manner. Please “cruise” the blog. Remember, this is a blog format, so you will need to page down to see all the posts. Also, leave comments if you have ideas, questions, or comments.
Also, join our Facebook community! It’s a powerful way to stay connected to others who are seeking God through an extended period of prayer and fasting.

Hello. I am very encouraged to start the Daniel Fast, however, I am concerned. The reason being is that the Daniel fast is for spiritual purposes, is it wrong for me to want physical healing along with spiritual healing and growth? I have chronic acne, fibromyalgia, chronic faitigue syndrome, and chronic yeast infections. I am constantly looking for “cures” (probably more than I read the bible- I dwell on my problems, I guess) and have just about had enough “searching” in circles. I want to fast, but I dont want my desire to be healed physically to be more important than my desire to grow spiritually. What should I do? Is it okay to fast for healing?
Hi Jazmine,
The Daniel Fast is an experience for the “Whole person” – body, soul and spirit. Many people experience vastly improved health during their Daniel Fast since this is such a healthy way to eat.
The definition of fasting is to restrict food for a spiritual purpose, so using the Daniel Fast eating plan for strictly health purposes would be a Daniel Diet rather than a fast…. And many people do use the Daniel Fast eating plan to improve their health and for weight loss. With that said, the Daniel Fast can help you with improving your health (and there is nothing wrong with that). This is where the Daniel Fast can help, by getting your focus off of the problem and onto the promise….your higher calling in Christ, Who you are in Him …and in the process learning how to treat your body as the temple of the Holy Spirit with temple worthy Foods and temple worthy Exercise.
I encourage you to go to http://www.daniel-fast.com and request a copy of the Meal Planning Sheet and a copy the Daniel Fast Guidelines, they will be emailed back to you. And, stay plugged in with us at both of these sites, the Daniel Fast site and this site has all the resources you’ll need for a successful fast and life changing encouragement to keep you going forward. Also, check out this site: http://www.DanielFastResearch.com which is amazing with the clinical research that has been done on the Daniel Fast. Richard Bloomer is wonderful man of God who is also a researcher from the University of Memphis. The results of his clinical studies are impressive. Again, it’s very likely that you will experience some very positive outcomes from the Daniel Fast, but be sure to continue with the instructions of your earthly physician, compare the Daniel Fast Guidelines with his instructions… As you seek the Great Physician in the restoration of your health. I hope this helps, Be Blessed in your Journey!
I have found out that I prefer cauliflower to potatoes, now that is something from an Irish girl. There are other foods that I have changed my mind about also. Changing my mind about things are truly a gift from God.

How can you tell if chips are baked or fried by the ingredient label?
Hi Debbie,
What I’ve learned about packaging is if they were baked chips, it would be in Bold lettering on the package. If the Ingredients all look good but you don’t see BAKED anywhere, then it is safe to say they are deep fried. Be Blessed!
I started my first Daniel Fast March 1st and because there were such RICH benefits at all levels, decided to maintain these new eating habits. I have had an elimination problem my ENTIRE life (age 60 now). For the first time my body is eliminating daily and I feel so much better. In addition God has shown himself to me in new ways and I am so grateful for Susan’s guidance on this spiritual practice and my husband’s support by cooking some of her recipes. They are tasty and wonderful! God does care about EVERY detail of our lives. So grateful I did this and plan to continue maintaining some of the healthy habits learned on this fast.
When you say fruits and vegatables can be in juiced form, does that mean I can drink vegatable and fruit juice I make at home with my juicer, or that they can be used in recipes but not consumed as a beverage?
I found the answer to my juice question in another section of the blog. By the way, I just finished reading The Daniel Fast – Expanded Edition With New Recipes. Soon, I will enter my second fast this year. This book was very helpful in assisting me to prepare my spirit. My approach to fasting will be much different this time.
Thank you.
ED-C
Water is the only drinking beverage on the fast, unsweetened additive free juices are allowed for use in recipes but not for drinking. With the exception of Smoothies. Blended Fruit/Vegetable Smoothies are allowed on the fast as a meal replacement (since they are considered a “liquid meal” rather than a beverage). A Daniel Fast “smoothie” is simply, blended fruits, vegetables, and if needed a splash of unsweetened plant-based milk (Soy, Almond, Rice, Coconut, etc.) or some Natural, unsweetened juices. Be Blessed on your Fast!
What can be used as a substitute for cornstarch for a thickner on the Daniel Fast?
Corn starch is fine for the fast, just make sure it is free of additives. Be Blessed!
I lost my way from God , being lazy. The Daniel fast has been an awakening to my religon and my life. Susan’s daily messages have kept me strong. I’m learning to forgive myself. I’m happy, calm and feel blessed to start anew. I’ve lost nearly 20#’s, something I’ve wanted to do for a long time. 3 days to the end of my fast and I believe I will keep this way of life moving forward. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. It has made all the difference.
Kathy
on the fast how often do you eat is this a 3 meal a day with snacks?
The Daniel Fast is traditionally done for 21 days, 24/7, some fast as brief as 7 days and others as long as 50 days. There are no stipulations on when to eat or how much to eat on the Daniel Fast. However, we do recommend three moderate meals and two small snacks per day. Also, to learn more about the fast this video may be helpful to you – What is the Daniel Fast? — http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BfRt9kJ7qio Be Blessed!
is watching TV, reading newspaper or surfing internet allowed during fasting?
Hi John,
You might choose to abstain from certain activities, but it is not required in the Daniel Fast. The thing to remember is that entering into a time of prayer and fasting is a spiritual experience. God does His part, but we also must do our part by aligning ourselves, quieting the chatter in our environment and in our hearts, and be still enough to hear Him. So if abstaining or reducing time on television or the internet would help you, then it’s a really good idea. Be Blessed on your Journey!
Am I allowed to take a daily multivitamin while on the fast?
Hi Mary Ann,
Yes you can take daily supplements, although we encourage you to find supplements that are free of sweeteners or man-made chemicals. I hope this helps, Be Blessed!
Hello, I have been on the Daniel fast for about 8 days now. I truly feel blessed and clean inside ( heart) and out. However, an embarrassing question. Constipation is not very pleasant. any suggestions?
Hi Kathleen,
Due to the high fiber on the fast, rarely do we hear of people getting constipated on the Daniel Fast. So, how is your water intake? As a general rule you need to be drinking half your body weight in ounces ie., 160 lbs = 80 ounces of water per day. . . from there it would be good to evaluate the foods you are eating to see if the combinations of the foods or the types are promoting constipation. I hope this helps, Be Blessed!
I am a diabetic type 2 and very much want to do the Daniel fast but I am concern about my blood sugar levels dropping too low. Any suggestions?
I encourage you to take this information along with a copy of the Daniel Fast Guidelines to your Health Care Provider and together make the required modifications if any to your fast. The Daniel Fast is a very healthy way to eat, men and women with insulin or Type 2 diabetes experience wonderful results on the Daniel Fast “IF” they are wise about the foods they eat. Whole grain cereals and leafy green vegetables are packed with protein yet very low on the glycemic index. The same is true of legumes. Many people with Type 2 diabetes are able to balance their blood sugar levels with the food they eat and can soon eliminate or drastically reduce the meds they take. The same is true with insulin-dependent diabetics – often able to greatly reduce the amount of insulin necessary to balance their BS levels.
You will want to make sure to eat foods that are “low on the glycemic index” and not sugary fruits. Of course you want to take the advice of your health professional, And access your own knowledge. But you can get plenty of protein in other ways than nuts and peanut butter. Again, Whole grains, legumes and leafy green vegetables are excellent sources of protein. Also, you will want to eat complex carbohydrates rather than simple carbohydrates. They are processed very differently in the body. You need to stay away from simple carbohydrates.
- Some examples of healthy foods containing “Complex Carbohydrates”:
Spinach, Whole Barley, Grapefruit, Turnip Greens, Buckwheat flour, Apples, Lettuce, Prunes, Water Cress, Oat bran flour, Apricots, Dried, Zucchini, Oatmeal, Pears, Asparagus, Oat bran cereal, Plums, Artichokes, Muesli, Strawberries, Okra, Wild rice, Oranges, Cabbage, Brown rice, Yams, Celery, Multi-grains, Carrots, Cucumbers, Pinto beans, Potatoes, Dill Pickles, low fat Soybeans, Radishes, Lentils, Broccoli, Navy beans, Garbanzo beans, Brussels Sprouts, Cauliflower, Kidney beans, Eggplant, Soy milk, Lentils, Onions, Whole meal spelt flour, Split peas.
- Some examples of foods to Avoid containing “simple carbohydrates”: All of which are NOT allowed on the fast. (Simple carbohydrates are more refined, are usually found in foods with fewer nutrients, and tend to be less satisfying and more fattening):
Table sugar, Corn syrup, Fruit juice, Candy, Cake, Bread made with white flour, Pasta made with white flour, Soda pop, such as Coke®, Pepsi®, Mountain Dew®, etc., Candy, All baked goods made with white flour, Most packaged cereals.
You can order a copy of the Daniel Fast Guidelines by going to http://www.daniel-fast.com and enter your email address, they will be emailed back to you. Be Blessed dear one on your Journey!
I heard about this fast while in the check out counter at the grocery store. I’ve read all I can find on it and really am looking forward to starting. I’ve set April 1st as my first day and I”m gettting ready by decreasing caffeine and increasing water. Just bought groceries and focused on foods on the list. I have a grandaughter living with me and I’ll try to share the benefits of this fast with her as well. I am looking forward to all the benefits of this fast, including the spiritual ones. I find I am in need of some spiritual cleansing. I enjoyed reading your comments and will continue to read and share here.
Hi Ms Curtis. Today is my first day of the fast. So far so good.
Hello, is palm oil acceptable on daniel’s fast?
thank you. tayo
Avoid using cooking oils that are high in saturated fats and/or trans fats such as Coconut Oil, Palm Oil, Palm Kernal Oil. Instead, use oils that are low in saturated fats and high in monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats such as Flax Seed Oil, Olive Oil, Walnut Oil, Almond Oil, Avocado Oil, Corn Oil, Safflower Oil, Sunflower Oil, Grape Seed Oil, Canola Oil, Soy Oil and Sesame Oil. I hope this helps!
Does anybody have any suggestions for ketchup substitute?
Most ketchup has sweetener as an ingredient, but you can make your own using tomato paste and some other ingredients (vinegar, spices, herbs). It’s not exactly the same, but a good alternative. I hope this helps!
I have a recipe for the Daniel Fast Ketchup. It is:
1 cup tomato paste
2 cups tomato sauce
2 Tablespoons apple juice
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/4 teaspoo cloves
1/8 teaspoon ground allspice
Put everything in a large saucepan and blend. Bring to boil then reduce heat to low and simmer uncovered til thickened, about 20 minutes. Put into airtight container when cooled and store in refrigerator.
Makes about 3 cups.
Hope you like it Nativia, from Char
Excellent, thank you for sharing this recipe!
Thanks
I have hunts tomato sauce and paste but they contain citric acid and calcium chloride, are these ok to use on the fast?
Hi Martha,
Calcium Chloride is on the edge as far as I’m concerned. It’s an allowed compound for certified organic foods, so I tell people it’s “allowed but not preferred” and they should try to find options that don’t include it whenever possible. Citric Acid/Ascorbic acid is a type of vitamin C (when natural it’s fine) used for a natural preservative. It’s organic and best when “naturally derived” and is allowed. Be Blessed!
Hey Susan,
I am still being blessed by your site as I was when I first found it a few years ago…so, thank you for your continued work! Could you please clarify if barley malt is actually sugar or not? I have been researching it, but am still confused! Thank you and God Bless!!!!
Hi Cindecee,
This can be confusing, and I think this is why:
Malt Extract: from barley and generally okay while on the Daniel Fast. BUT…
Organic Barley Malt Extract: this is a syrup and used as a sweetener, which makes it a no-no for the Daniel Fast.I hope this helps, Be Blessed!
Can I chew surgarless gum on the fast? Also, is nutritional yeast ok to use?
Sugarless gums include chemicals and/or sweeteners so it’s not allowed on the Daniel Fast.
Because Nutritional Yeast is deactivated and not a leavening product it would be allowed on the fast. Be Blessed!
I have been trying to carry my natural sugarless tooth paste( it contains no additives or chemicals) around with me because I deal with the public face to face. I must confess the holy spirit checked me about the sugarless gum because i reasoned that it was ok to chew it. Learning lessons on trust here> I am learning to trust the prompting of the holy spirit more through this. Even if I don’t hear thunder from heaven, I know that still small voice is real too.
I am on day 34 of my Daniel fast. I am doing it for lent. I shouldn’t say I am doing it because without God at the helm I could have never done it, but He makes it so easy.,
I bought some whole wheat tortillas instead of whole grain by mistake and towards the bottom of the ingredients list is sugar, so my question is: I had two of them knowing there was sugar in them, Does that mean my fast is over because I wasn’t obedient? I have asked forgiveness, but I am still feeling guilty. I haven’t written in my journal about it yet, that usually helps.
Could you let me know if I can continue the fast. I’m just not sure what to do right now. Thank you.
Hi Charmaine,
No, you don’t need to start over. However, there is a powerful lesson in this. When we unknowingly make mistakes, we seek the truth from the Lord, repent and then conform to His ways. So you want to do the same here, and then continue on in your fast. Well, it’s the same when we Knowingly make a mistake, we seek the Lord, repent (change) and then conform to the ways of the Lord, and again continue on in your fast. Rejoicing in the forgiveness He provides, forgive yourself and get your focus back on to Him! Be Blessed on your Journey!
Char you are an inspiration to me. I agree with them. Thanks for recommending this site to me.
What type of crackers are allowed? I think I read that original Triscuits are allowed, how about the ones with olive oil and rosemary? Plus is there a brand of rice cakes that is better than others? Thanks! Paula
Hi Paula,
Yes original Trisuits are a Daniel fast friendly cracker. I’m not sure about the other Triscuits flavors, you’ll need to read the Ingredients list to see if they comply with the guidelines. A new habit all of us quickly gain during the Daniel Fast is READING LABELS. That’s because when we purchase prepared foods in the grocery stores, we read the ingredient list on the label and see what’s actually inside the container. That’s when you will be shocked by all the sugars and sweeteners added to foods, along with chemicals and additives that are included in the foods! So, that’s why we remind everyone to read the Ingredients list for everything you eat. Lundberg Brown Rice, Rice Cakes, Ingredients: Whole grain brown rice, sea salt. Here’s a link for you: http://www.lundberg.com/products/rice_cakes/Organic_Brown_Rice_Cakes_Lightly_Salted.aspx I hope this helps, Be Blessed on your Fast!
Good Morning, I just started my fast today. Does anyone have any dinner reciepes..?
Thanks!
Hi Leah,
If you go to http://daniel-fast.com/recipes.html you will find some recipe ideas to help you. Be Blessed!
Hello, I did the Daniel Fast for lent (about 6 weeks) It was amazing, I just felt led to do it then, and I had never fasted ever. God is so very amazing. My favorite easy dinner was a big baked potatoe with salt anf pepper and a big salad with olive oil and vinegar. It was filling and yummy. Another thing I would do was saute in olive oil onions sliced and peppers or whatever else you may like and put it in a whole grain tortilla – yummy. You get very inventive during this time, but He leads you like at no other time. Good luck on your journey! Char
can u have almond milk with this fast
You can use unsweetened additive free almond milk (or other plant-based milks) during your fast with recipes and on cereal…..Remember the only drinking beverage on the fast is water . . . Be Blessed on your Fast!
Hello I was wondering how often should we do this 21 day fast once very Six months once a year ?
Hi Crystal,
As often as you feel the leading of the Holy Spirit. Sometimes I do it a couple of times a year, sometimes more. Just ask Him to show you how to proceed, He is faithful and has the very best plans already laid out for you! Be Blessed on your Journey!
I read in a previous post that people have stayed on the Daniel Fast for longer than the 21 days. I have alot of weight to lose is it alright to stay on for 3 to 4 months?
Hi Valerie,
Yes you can stay on the Fast for longer than 21 days. The Daniel Fast is a very healthy way to eat, and the length of the fast varies from 7–50 days. Afterward, if one chooses to keep this eating plan as a lifestyle and many do, there are suggested slight modifications to the eating plan such as adding in occassional dairy, fish and chicken. The Daniel Fast is an experience for the whole person – body, soul and spirit. Many people experience vastly improved health during their Daniel Fast since this is such a healthy way to eat.
The definition of fasting is to restrict food for a spiritual purpose and using the Daniel Fast eating plan for strictly health purposes would be a Daniel Diet rather than a fast. And many people do use the Daniel Fast eating plan to improve their health and for weight loss. With that said, the Daniel Fast can help you with being over weight. This is where the Daniel Fast can help, by getting your focus off of weight loss and onto your higher calling in Christ, Who you are in Him and in the process learning how to treat your body as the temple of the Holy Spirit with temple worthy Foods and temple worthy Exercise.
I encourage you to go to http://www.daniel-fast.com and request a copy of the Meal Planning Sheet and a copy the Daniel Fast Guidelines, they will be emailed back to you. Look them over and formulate a plan of action that will break off those old habits and put into play some new good ones.
We also have a ministry to help people develop a lifestyle of health http://www.Choose-Life-Now.com Many of the members are obese . . . the program is all about submitting our bodies to Christ as part of our spiritual worship (Romans 12:1-2). Many members start with the Daniel fast and then join Choose Life Now. The results are powerful. I hope this helps, Be Blessed in your Journey!
I’m nearly done with a Daniel fast how do you stop the fast the right way?
Great question John! I do want to caution everyone about ending the fast.
You will need to be careful during the first couple days of “ordinary eating.” To keep your body from rebelling loudly, reintroduce foods slowly. This is especially important when resuming coffee and caffeine, meat, dairy products and sweets. Small portions are better and easing back into consumption of these foods is advised.
Also, when you end your fast, reflect on the lessons you learned during your fasting period. I know many have learned valuable lessons about healthy eating and want to carry those lessons into their future. Perhaps you have gained new and positive habits for prayer and daily Bible reading. Don’t leave these gems behind until you fast again. Instead, carry them with you and allow them to affect your everyday life. Be Blessed on your Journey!
I ended my 21 day only to find out I did not want to end it. I forced myself to indulge, and experienced stomach pain while eating the meal. I slowed down and continued, but could not believe that I was having pain while eating. My thought is, God is trying to tell me something. I need to heed and take instructions. On my way to buy some vegetables and going to start juicing today.
found some wonderful microwave popocorn
Central Market Brand organic
I started the Daniel Fast today….. Is it true that your hair, immune system and skin look and feal better ? Thank you and God Bless, Theresa
Hi Theresa,
From personal experience, YES! We’ll see how many more testimonies come through for those who wish to share with you their experience. Be Blessed!
I have went through some trials and tribulations while fasting. I would not have made it without fasting. It is so much more than your figure, or the food. It helps build fabulous faith.
Iam starting my day 1 on Daniels Fast Iam excited & nervous at the same time yes iam 25Lbs. over weight I have tried everything else. Yes it will get me the chance to get closer to God also I have FAITH this will work for me . God Bless
Hi Team,
I really want to thank you for this site and the inspirational material. A few of us are on Day 30 of 40 days and I am finding the information here a wonderful tool.
The recipes are great, although some taste too good and, to my mind, would still be classified ‘pleasant food’. But then, baked pumpkin on a rack in the oven without any oil or seasoning tastes amazing, so what do you do?
I have started a folder with ‘keepers’ for non fasting days. Even my husband will say that something is a ‘keeper’ bless him.
So thank you for helping us to so easily take care of the food side of things. It is time that we don’t have to spend on planning.
Physically – I eased off caffeine a few days before starting the fast, and stepped up the water intake, so headaches weren’t really much of an issue. My aches and pains have gone and I feel great.
Spiritually – I feel much closer to the Lord and am hearing Him better now, which was my goal.
Things have improved so much that I am hesitant to stop. We are going on a fully catered church camp a few days after the 40 days are up, so continuing during those few days would be difficult, but I think I will incorporate a lot of this into my future everyday living.
The devotional material is also excellent.
Blessings to all involved in the Daniel Fast.
I’m nearly done with the Daniel fast how do you break/stop the fast the right way.
Thank you Susan for the Daniel Site you provide to all believers…..I completed my first 21 day fast and WANNA do another…..the blessing God has poured on me and my Husband are to many to list…..Plus I am down by three dress sizes….my Husband said he could never do it, however, he does not realize it but he did it right along with me with little effort…..
Thank you again,
Deborah from Mississippi!!!!!
What wonderful news, I am going to continue another 21 days as well. God is so good. Once I completed the 21 days, I felt moved to do 21 more.
Is Potato Starch ok on the Fast?
From what I can tell, the potato starch is fine . . . use more as a binding agent rather than to leaven. Be Blessed!
How do you manage pain on the fast? I am into day two of fairly severe lower back pain – sciatica issues. Seeing the doctor tomorrow and trying, trying, and praying through, but I’m not sure I can – or want to! – go another sleepless night. The normal remedy is Aleve – but I’m assuming that is not part of the fast! Other than that I am loving this fasting discipline!
Hi Denise,
If medication is necessary, then by all means take it as needed during the fast. If you have the option of medication that is free of sweeteners or man-made chemicals all the better, medications are allowed on the Daniel Fast. I hope this helps, Be Blessed!
Leg stretches always help. Since starting with stretches, I no longer need meds.
Is food with calcium chloride okay?
Hi Paula,
Calcium Chloride is on the edge as far as I’m concerned. It’s an allowed compound for certified organic foods, so I tell people it’s “allowed but not preferred” and they should try to find options that don’t include it whenever possible. Be Blessed!
Susan, can I chew spry gum? Ingredients are natural spearmint oil and xylitol…. Thanks
Hi Jerry,
I have looked all over for a chewing gum that is free of sweeteners and/or chemicals and have yet to find one. Technically, Xylitol is considered a sweetener and a form of sugar (even though not from sugar cane). Be blessed on your fast!
I was diagnosed w/ stage 2 breast caner in Aug. My nutritionist has told me no sugar, no soy.
Several of your recipes call for tofu, is there anything that can be used as a substitute?
Hi Tami,
You don’t need to eat tofu if it doesn’t work for you. You can get plenty of protein and the iron that you need on the Daniel Fast without having soy or tofu products. Protein Rich Foods: All Nuts and Peanut butter (any nut butters), Whole grains, Legumes and Leafy Dark Green Vegetables. Also, many people do add to their diet unsweetened (plant based) protein powder into a blended fruit/vegetable ‘smoothie’ as a meal replacement (make sure the ingredients comply with the Daniel Fast and watch out for milk products (whey) and sweeteners along with chemical additives).
If you still question that you’re getting enough protein and iron in your foods consider adding a sweetener free/additive free plant based supplement to your regime. I hope this helps, Be Blessed in your Journey!
I am reading about the Daniels fast and just wanted to know how long is it for?
Hi Jennifer,
The Daniel Fast is traditionally done for 21 days, some have gone for a longer length of time, and some for shorter (7 days). Be Blessed on your Fast!
I think I am hooked on caffeine. one day without my daily cuppa in the morning and I am experiencing alarming withdrawal symptoms (throbbing headache, heavy head, sleepless night, constant feeling of throwing up, lethargy etc). Pls help. What do I do?
Hi Carol,
Increase your water intake! Your body is going through the detox process from caffeine, sugar and/or chemicals. These symptoms (headaches, fatigue, cramps, and even joint pain to name a few) will pass in a few days (3-7) or more. The more extreme the build up of the toxins in your body, the more extreme your symptoms and length of time to complete your detox. Meanwhile, flushing your system with water will ease your discomfort and speed up the detox process, if unbearable, do take some medication to help ease the discomfort. As a general guideline, your body needs half its body weight in ounces of water per day, ie: 160lbs = 80 oz. of water daily. Add to that amount if you are experiencing any extreme conditions such as exposure to warm weather, cold weather, exercise or Detox. So, drink lot’s of Water, water, water! I hope this helps, Be Blessed on your Fast!
can u eat tortillia chips
Hi Tim,
“Baked” corn tortilla chips and baked whole grain tortilla chips would be allowed, but you will need to read the list of ingredients to make sure they don’t include chemical additives or sweeteners. Be Blessed on your Fast!
Can I eat nutritional yeast on the Daniel Fast?
Hi Denise,
Because Nutritional Yeast is deactivated and not a leavening product it would be allowed on the fast. Be blessed!
I am new to this fast (on day 6). I enjoy the daily devotionals so very much and I have found this blog helpful and encouraging. I would appreciate prayer for my journey too. Thank you.
Pattilu
Can you have whole wheat pasta on the Daniel fast? Thank you!
Hi Crystal,
All whole grains are allowed, so whole wheat pasta is fine, but again you will want to read the ingredients. I use a pasta and the only ingredient is 100% Duram whole wheat flour. It’s a Kroger brand product. I hope this helps! Be blessed on your fast!
Can the ingrediants in the recipes be changed? Such as a breakfast smoothie with no bananas or the oatmeal with apples, but no raisins or do the combinations have an important benefit?
Hi Barry,
No, the combinations are variable and just there to give creative ideas. Be Blessed!
Why is quick oatmeal not allowed?
100% whole grain oats are fine. The quick oats that don’t comply are those that have sweeteners and other ingredients added.
I know that yeast is not allowed on the Daniel fast, but what about “inactive yeast” or “nutritional yeast” that is not used for any type of fermentation or leavening?
Because Nutritional Yeast is deactivated and not a leavening product it would be allowed on the fast. Be blessed!
Dear Fellow Fasters,
I am starting the Daniel Fast tomorrow, using today as a day with God spent in prayer and getting ready to eliminate the “untouchables”!
Please pray that God directs me closer to His purpose in this journey and He shows me what He wants from me.
I am excited to start this fast. This is my first fast of my life & I am sure this is something God wants me to do for Him.
Many Blessings,
Patsy G.
Dear Team,
thank you very much for your response and for lifting my family up in prayers, it helps to have your support. And to brokenhearted II, i will keep you and your family in prayer. Satan does attack us with the things we love the most, but it will not separate me from the love of our Mighty God, I have been drawn even closer to the Lord ! And in this I rejoice!
Broken but healing
Hi Donna,
Are grits ok to eat on the Daniels Fast?
Hi Sarah,
Yes, Grits are fine on the fast. However, Yellow grits include the whole corn kernel, while white grits use hulled kernels and the same is true if hominy grits is used. So look for Yellow (whole) kernel corn or hominy grits, as well as sweetener free and chemical free ingredients. I hope this helps!
In fact, I accidentally used yellow grits instead of cornmeal for the corn chips recipe and they were great! Had them again, and again.
Are dried fruits if they have sugar in the ingredients?
You can have dried fruit on the Daniel Fast. You just need to check the label of the package to find out the ingredients (not the nutritional value). Many manufactureres add sugar or other types of sweeteners and/or chemicals. Be Blessed!
I need prayer form my fellow lent fasters. Day 22 and I am struggling. Feeling a little burned out on fasting.
It helps me sometimes to focus on the positive aspect, i.e., “I am one day closer to achieving my goal and improving my spiritual life” rather than the negative of “I’m hungry, I want xyz that I can’t have”, etc.
Also, my personal belief is that it’s when we’re doing the most good that Satan will try to hinder us. If Satan is tempting you to break your fast as he did Christ, then you can be sure that your fast is being effective.
My response in times like these is “Satan, you are NOT going to get the better of me!” and it makes me more determined to stick to it. Also, it helps me if I focus my attention on other activities and take my mind off the fast.
And if you break it, just say “Lord, I’m sorry and help me” and He will forgive and help. It doesn’t mean you’re a failure just that you’re human and He certainly understands that.
Thank you for your prayers
Hi Belinda, I’m on day 15 and feeling great. I wanted to encourage you to try going to dinner at a local vegin resturant and enjoy a meal prepared by others…..I went to a local vegan Resturant last weekend and really enjoyed eating amazing food prepared by very careful and cautious hands. Word of warning, be sure to read ingredients and make sure no sugar (agave) is added. You’re almost there….I pray that our Lord will give your the strength of David to get through these next few days.
