This is no accident that I found your site. I had no idea there was a site that had a Daniel diet or information concerning it. I have been struggling with my weight for a long time now praying for an answer. God said to me, eat like Daniel eats. I started to do a search on Daniel’s way of eating and came across several sites that talked about Daniel’s diet. This site gave such a sense of peace, I decided to sign up for the 2008 Daniel Fast. This will help me to commit to what God has told me to do. God is an awsome God. I Prasie him, Love Him, Adore Him. I Pray for everyone who is fasting I pray for your breakthrough. All those that are trying to lose weight, I pray that the struggle, power and gluttony, that food holds over us, we will be delivered from it by His Grace.

We tried this fast last year with our church & fell way short! We got too legalistic and really could not find helpful resources to get us around our questions. Go figure! We were doing it all wrong and were trying to make it right in our eyes!
Since last year, my husband has become a minister and we are now prepared to begin 2008 with fasting for the LORD’s will, not ours.
I felt the need to search one time for recipes and then leave searching alone. Praise God, He let your site be the only one I clicked on!
I am so proud He sent us to you!
Can’t wait to start, now that we have so many joined with us here.

I Have started the Daniel Fast and my prayer is that I grow tremdously in faith and rely on the power of God and not my own limited power. Everything done should be to the glory of the Lord. For the first 10 days of the 21 day fast I am literally eating only vegetables and drinking only water as the scripture reads. At first I thought, “There is no way I can do this”. This is ture, I can’t but God can and for me this is the point of my fasting. This will cause me to be in much prayer of course bringing me even closer to our Heavenly Father. I’m tired of mediocracy in the myself and in the Body of Christ so I commit myself to Him and pray that we will all function in the excellence and integrity of the Lord and that He be glorified.
Please add me to the list.

HELLO ALL YOU FASTERS OUT THERE.THIS IS MY SECOND YEAR ON THE DANIEL FAST.I TRIED IT LAST YEAR AFTER TALKING TO A FAMILY MEMBER ABOUT FASTING .I HAD ALREADY DONE A FEW 3 DAY FAST(DRINKING ONLY WATER AND NO FOOD) BEFORE.BUT 21 DAYS WOULD BE MY BIGGEST TEST EVER.BUT TO MAKE A LONG STORY SHORT I MADE IT 25 DAYS, I LOST ABOUT 40LBS, BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT RESULT OF ALL I BECAME CLOSER TO GOD AND HE CHANGED A LOT OF THINGS IN MY LIFE.SO I COULDN’T WAIT TO DO THE FAST AGAIN THIS YEAR.I KNOW GOD WILL DO AMAZING THINGS IN MY LIFE IN 2008 AND MAINLY BECAUSE OF FASTING AND PRAYER.I WISH YOU ALL GREAT STRENGTH AND PROSPERITY.PUT GOD FIRST AND WATCH THE CHANGES HE MAKES IN OUR LIFE.GOD BLESS YOU ALL.

I have started the Daniel Fast on Jan. 1, 2008, I have fasted in the past, but only like 1 or 2 days. This is my first 21 Day fast. I am ready to see what God has in store for me. My church Unity Church of God in Jesup, GA, is doing a church wide Daniel Fast(21 Day Fast) starting on Jan. 7, I wanted to start at the beginning of the new year, because 2008 is the year of new beginnings. To God be all the Glory, forever & ever.

I’m looking forward to the spiritual enlightenment, physical, mental healing. I’ve fasted the Daniel Fast at least 19 times during my 53 years on this earth. My hubby who is an Adventisit has never embarked upon this journey. I was surprised because most Seventh Day Adventist have a strict eating regimen which is basically vega and some are vegetarians. It will be exciting and exhilarating! Looking for some yokes to be destroyed!!

I have never before felt such anticipation of what God is wanting to reveal to His people as I have over the last 2 months. I am actually looking forward to the fast. Excited about what God is doing. I keep thinking about “one can put a thousand to flight”, what in the world could ten-thousand do? Praise God, for great things. I start my fast on Jan 6-27, 2008. I am dong a Daniel Fast for this time frame. I am fasting for my husband’s salvation, my spiritual gifts to increase and for financial debt freedom. Amen.

Thank God for this website!!! A few of my friends and I are doing the Daniel fast starting on January 7 for 21 days. We are doing it for varied reasons. I did it last year for 10 days using guidelines from another site, but I have some questions.
1. I used popcorn as a snack last time. Is that allowed?
2. I also ate lots of jalepeno flavored almonds. Is that okay?

Hi Glynnis,
Thanks for the kind words and I hope the very best for you and your friends on the Daniel Fast. Expect big things from our awesome God!
Popcorn — depends on whether you use microwave popcorn (with very nasty chemicals) or you pop it yourself on the stove. The latter would be approved. Also, you might want to use Paul Newman’s Popcorn — all profits go to very good people-helping causes. [Let me tell you my fun Paul Newman story. I used to help Christian non-profit organizations raise funds. I did a grant request to the Hole in the Wall Gang Foundation for a children's home in Jerusalem. The Foundation funded it and when I opened the envelope from them, there was a check for $50,000 and guess whose signature was on the bottom? Paul Newman! Pretty cool. He has a reputation for never giving autographs -- so I was thrilled to receive this one. Of course, we had to cash the check, but I did make a copy of it for the memory.
]
Now on to Jalepeno “flavored” almonds – READ THE LABEL. That’s the motto on the Daniel Fast — READ THE LABEL. That can tell you if they use either sugar or chemicals. With the word “flavored” in the description, my guess is that there may be some chemicals . . . but take a look yourself on the brand you use.
God bless you on your fast!

I have been diagnosed with an auto immune disease and I am not willing to accept it. I am believing the Lord for complete healing in my body. Like the scripture that talks about this kind only coming out with prayer and fasting, I also never realized it was the un-belief and not the demon that needed the prayer and fasting. Jesus said when we fast not if so this means that it should be a part of our lives as christians. I come against anything that will stand in the way of preventing us from completing our fast. I am eager to see the wonders God will perform in my life during my fast. I pray for God’s direction in some financial matters and I pray for a deeper walk with God. I just heard about the prayer fast on TBN from Pastor J. Franklin. I thought of a Daniel Prayer Fast and found you all. I listened to Pastor Jentezen on streaming audio yesterday the first day of the fast.
This is TexasFW Metroplex. The Church I enjoy attending is forty five minutes away in SouthLake, Texas, Gateway Church has about 12.000 people. Our Lord had told me “Make Me An Altar”. I was not sure what He meant but believe HE is saying to pick the same location and place in my apartment to worship HIM and give thanks to HIM every morning. I’ve been wanting to meet with HIM more consistently every single morning first thing and to always study HIS LIVING WORD which is the only food we have for our souls. HIS Word is such a vast treasure and power and HOPE and comfort and Living Water and BREAD of LIFE. I had searched for forty eight years for I knew not what. I was starved for I knew not what and then HE visited me in my fear and sickness, helpless and pain and tormentedness and HE and HIS LIVING WORD saved me in 84 when I was lost and caught and enslaved and dying and so terrified and desperately needy. HE told me that what would help would be to obey HIM. I knew the Voice speaking was GOD but I did not know God’s Name at that time or that the real Creator GOD had a HolyBible. HE answered my heart cry and told me to obey HIM and to only look at what glorified HIM. I had been watching television. HE let me know that it broke HIS heart for me to watch it. I had no idea what HE wanted but at last I did want to obey GOD instead of me and so I asked the Voice of God where to find truth and HE showed me HIS Book. Before that on Passover in 83 just when I had decided to stop drinking and get rid of all medicines and pills and dope and to repent HE had told me that I needed the Blood of the Passover Lamb to save me from the angel of death that was coming and from judgment but I had no idea at that time that the Lamb’s Name was Yeshua or Jesus..Ayear later HE gave me the vision of the Holy Bible when I asked HIM where to find truth? I began to read the Holy Book every day for many hours a day in 84 and experienced the spirit of the fear of the Lord /YHVH. I would read and shake. After several months I confessed my sins to Jesus and prayed for HIS Righteousness promised in I John 1:9. HIS WORDS of LIFE and LIGHT washed away the lies I had heard all of my life. I’ve been wanting to seek HIS FACE and to walk much much closer to Jesus and to be more fruitful and to finally begin to deny my self and take up my cross and follow Jesus much more closely and to relinquish all that I have been holding on to of this present dark world system and to tell more people about Jesus and all that HE has done for me, for us on the Cross and all about the Kingdom of GOD. I remembered the words, “This kind cometh not out except by prayer and fasting”.
I am thankful for you my brothers and sisters in Christ. Do we really comprehend how much HE truly loves us? I am praying Romans 5:5. “Holy Spirit shed Your Love abroad in my heart and in our hearts. Fill us up and overflow us with Your Love and Presence”. Use us to turn many in the Valley of Decision to trust in YOU and hear of YOU and to respond to YOU with faith, hope and love and obedience to YOUR BLESSED LIVING WORDS of LIFE. May we find all of Your Promises in Your Word and Live by them and go on into the Land of Promises in YOU.Help us to be true disciples and to make new ones like Peter, James, John, Paul, Anna in the Temple Praying.

Dear Susan~
I am so grateful for the devotional that you put together. I have been using it every day and the Lord is really speaking to me through the spirit, soul and body exercise. I was surprised to see that I think a lot from the soul Pam. Ouch!! I have a lot of questions that I am looking for the Lord to answer through this fast. I need to find a balance in my eating and exercise. I either go full bore or nothing. I was also diagnosised with an auto immune disease and am finding that I am very affected by the food I eat. I sometimes feel like how I imagine Daniel must have felt when he wouldn’t eat the food that was offered to him.
There are people who will get mad beause I won’t eat some of the things that they offer, and when we are at a restaraunt things are said when I order my food and ask for adjustments in the dish I am ordering.
I am learning that I need to be strong and like Daniel stand firm on what I know, the Lord has alowed this in my life for a purpose and I will continue on this path to find what He has for me and how I can use all that I have learned to guide others on their path.
There are so many people who wouldn’t be sick if they would change their diets, if they would ask the Lord what He wants them to eat.

Let me first say – Your website is AWESOME. Thank you so much!
I started the Daniel Fast on Jan. 2, 2008. The Jentzen Franklin program was my inspiration. I have very specific prayers that I am praying each day. Also, I am praying over the names on my prayer list. I found your blog while doing some research on feeling nauseous and light-headed while fasting. Today (day 7 into the fast) is the first day that I’ve felt this way. Also, I am beginning to notice changes in my body. I believe that my body is going through detoxification and withdrawal from caffeine. I gave up Starbucks! yes! I plan to pray for all that are doing this 2008 fast. I have great expectations for what GOD is going to do!
Yes, please add my name to your list.

Just started with my church family and I am so excited! I felt so bad the first three days but I am definitely feeling better. However, I am not devoting the time into the word like I need to. Please help me pray that I can stay focus in my time with God– that is why I am doing this!!

Hi, I live in Houston, Tx and am a member of Mountaintop Ministries. My purpose in participating in this fast is to get closer to God. I am expecting an outpouring of His Spirit in my life as never before. I am seeking clarity on the direction He would have me to go regarding ministry and to know His purposes for me individually. I am also in need of a financial breakthrough. Finally I believe that it is just TIME for everything to come into manifestation that God has ordained for my life.

I have had this churning in my Spirit for a couple of weeks and did not know what it was. So the other day I came home from work and sat down and turned on TBN and the host that day was Jentzen Franklin and they were talking about 2008 being the year of change and the Daniel Fast. However I only caught the very end of the program and as I was watching I really felt that I was to do this fast. As others have posting I am believing for a dramatic change this year with my family, finances and mainly my walk with God. So I begin to pray that evening when all went to bed and it was just me and God and my Bible and I was led to Daniel 10. I have never really fasted like this before yeah I have given up my Mountain Dews for a few days or something like that. But I have never felt the desire or the need to do this fast. Anway I have heard bits and pieces about the Daniel Fast but did not really know what it was so I decided to do search on Google and yes there were several other responses before yours but I am so glad that I went to your posting. Just the little bit of navigation that I have done your site has been so informative to me and really after reading what some of the people have written is definetly a confirmation to what I am supposed to be doing right now. Keep me in your prayers I have a strong calling on my life with a healing ministry and I have not been obedient the last ten years with this calling and feel like this is the year for change in me.
God Bless you and your ministry and thanks a million for posting this website.

Thank you for this website that is full of great information – physical and spiritual.
New Life Regional Church of Southern Illinois is beginning the Daniel fast on Monday, January 14. We do this because of our annual Prayer Revival which is the last week of January. We will conclude the fast on Sunday, February 3. Our church is becoming excited about what they believe God can and will do when we humble ourselves and sacrifice to the Lord.
Please add our church to the list of “committed to the fast” and believing God was miraculous results.

Thank you for such an informative site! I am a 54 yr old grandmother, who God has been dealing with me re the fasting. I started later, Thursday,Jan 10, decided to do the 3 day water only, to be followed by the Daniel Fast. My husband of 24 yrs left 2 yrs ago, I have faced severe financial challenges,(eviction) and also breakdown in relationship with my only son and wife-to the point of them keeping granddaughters from me and out of church(they are 2 & 4) and have been going with either their parents or myself since they were born. I am believing my Father for supernatural wisdom and direction in all these areas. Also complete and total family restoration-with my husband saved, out of adulterous relationship, back home, serving God, son & wife back in church with my granddaughters , and the 4yr relationship I have cultivated with granddaughters be restored better than ever. I know that He will do this. I go to a wonderful church in Greenville SC, Redemption World Outreach Center,(you can catch us live on the internet, http://www.rwoc.org) am helping with a praying group for wives there. I can use all your prayers of agreement with me, as I will pray for all of you. I am expecting mighty miracles from our God! For all of us!

This website is truly a lifesaver, lots of DETAILED information/food list and support, questions are answered quickly. Thank you for your work in the lives of God’s people. Let’s all lift up everyone, everyday that is participating in this fast and contributing to this website. This is my first Daniel Day Fast – I actually did not learn about it until earlier this week so I decided to start my 21 days on Monday, January 14. This weekend I comitted myself to a 3 day water only fast prior to the Daniel Fast. I have been praying for much breakthrough in my life – that besetting sins and strongholds will be broken; that certain friends and family members will be saved; that God’s plan for my life will be clearly revealed; and that financial breakthrough will occur. If anyone happens to read this and feels led to pray for me, I would be very very thankful! God bless you for posting this site – it has helped me understand more of what I am doing through the fast.

Sometime it is hard to do the Daniel fast because the things needed can and get to be expensive. Is it allowed or should I say will GOD still honor my fast if I decide to change my style of fasting in the middle of fasting? I thank you for this site and all the information posted it is very helpful. I will also be purchasing on Friday the recipe book as well. God Bless!!

Yes, the Lord will indeed honor your fast as He always looks at the condition of your heart. If your heart has been sincere toward Him and you feel led to alter your fasting method to the Daniel Fast . . . then He will certainly continue to uphold you.
Our God is a good God! He is so full of love and care for us . . . so much that He gave His only Son. Allow the immeasurable love of God to surround you and embrace you! He is LOVE!
Bless you on your fast!

This is my first time for the daniel fast… the last one I had been on was a seven day nothing but water. Our church has started this fast among a few other ones. Since my wife and I has started this fast within 2 days I really found out what I really needed to be used for… Since last sunday the day before our start day, a door opened for us to start sign language, after that during the fast another door opened at a home missions church for her to start with another lady that is big into sign language. And as far as that goes I feel that I have been lead to this church to take a position. I am going to be preaching the second friday in feb. God has really started using us.

Also for help with our finances. Personally – I just want to come into alignment with the Spirit and be more in tune with what He would want for us. I’m am trying to get back to my first love! Though I have never left Him, I have definitely felt distracted over the years.
I think it this is wonderful! 2 Chron 7:14 says “If my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land”
His people are humbling themselves and praying! Our land needs healing! Hear us, Lord…

Yes, taboule is totally okay on the fast, as are any salads or recipes made with ingredients listed on the Daniel Fast Food List.
Yesterday I made a delicious Wheat Berry Salad. I plan to send it out to all those who have purchased the books (along with the devotionals everyone receives). I encourage you to try it! So tasty and nutritious, which is a winning combination.
Blessings to you on your fast!

I began the Daniel Fast on Lent, February 6, 2008 as a means to celebrate new life and health. I want to develop upon my relationship with God. I need to hear clearly his purpose for my life. I am also fasting for the well-being of those who are unable to speak or pray for themselves. I intercede in prayer on their behalf in the name of Jesus. Oh what an uplift it is to clean your temple and allow God to roam freely.
Amen,

Hi Marlene,
Thanks for your post. You don’t really need to “join” the Daniel Fast. I will add your name to the list.
Buyers of The Daniel Fast Cookbook and/or The Daniel Fast for the Body, Soul and Spirit also receive a lot of “perks” from me including a free daily devotional and email updates and Daniel Fast Notes several days each week. This is my way of expressing my appreciation for their support.
Blessings to you on your fast!

Hi Hope,
If you have type 2 diabetes you will likely find the Daniel Fast a very healthy way to eat. I always encourage people to check out diet changes with their health provider, so I hope you talk with your doctor before starting the fast unless you feel comfortable with being able to monitor your blood sugar sufficiently.
Do you have the Daniel Fast Cookbook? It has enough recipes for a very pleasant fast with meal plans and lots of cooking tips. You can order by following the links on this site.
You can also search out the recipes on the site as there are many included here. The Daniel Fast is a very healthy eating plan that is centered on fruits and vegetables along with whole grains. Many people meet their protein needs with rice and bean dishes, tofu and whole grains.
Continue to read through the messages on this weblog and you will learn so much about the Daniel Fast. I actually eat this way most of the time with only slight modifications when I am not fasting.
Blessings to you on your fast.

Hi Susan,
First off I’d like to tell you how this site has blessed me. God is using you in such a mighty way, touching the lives of so many people. I was especially blessed by the Daniel Fast Notes entry for January 29th titled “Let Me Introduce You to You”. On the sign up page my name is spelled incorrectly twice. However, in the January 29th entry is spelled correctly which truly made it personal and powerful for me. Thank God for you.
Also, I have a question. I have completed the 21 day Daniel Fast which actually extended to 40 days. I have committed to the Lord to stay on a modified version of the Daniel Fast for atleast the rest of this year. Could you share with me your modifications and recipes with those modifications? I did purchase both books but I’m having somewhat of a difficult time modifying for myself. I could really use some tips.

Good morning Arenda,
Thanks for the kind words about the devotional messages I send out to those who have so generously supported this effort by purchasing the Daniel Fast Cookbook or The Daniel Fast for the Body Soul and Spirit. God blesses me through this ministry and I am honored to serve Him and His people in this way.
I have made the Daniel Fast a year-round lifestyle with just a few modifications. I eat fish, organic chicken, whole grain breads [I back my own bread every couple weeks and freeze the loaves to use as needed], some cheeses, and allow the occasional cookie to pass my lips. I also drink organic coffee with organic half and half cream. These are all foods that I have occasionally, not all the time. I do have two cups of coffee in the morning, but other than that, I am pretty much fruits, vegetables and whole grain foods all the time with fish or chicken once or twice a week.
When I completed my spiritual Daniel Fast in late January, I resumed eating my normal way and almost immediately felt sluggish with stomach aches and a heaviness that I didn’t like. This was compared to the great way I felt while on the Daniel Fast. That’s why I went back to that way of eating. My body was telling me what it wanted, which was a healthier diet.
I hope this helps! Blessings to you!

I am currently on a fast and am on my 14th day, of only fruits, vegetables, water & juices. I had heard about the Daniel fast and decided to check into it. Thanks so much for all the information. Since doing this fast, it has made me want to improve my eating habits daily and have decided to live healthier using the Daniel Fast.
We recently had a conference about The Father’s Love and it was so powerful. God met me in amazing ways…I know that it helped that I was on this fast.
I will be purchasing the cookbook for sure. Bless you in your ministry!

I just started the Daniel 21 day fast yesterday. Thankyou so much for all the wonderful information you have put on your site. I was relieved to read that we may experience headaches and what they are caused by. Also I was interested to learn that you could eat rice etc, I assumed only fruit and veg, would you mind if I asked how you learnt about the rice, I’m just so interested in learning all that I can. I’m so excited about the next few weeks. To clear out so much of the gunk out of our lives to make room for God, it’s really how it should be all the time, I can see why Daniel made it a lifestyle! Thankyou again for the support you are giving to all of us. I would be honored to be added to your list.
God bless you Heaps!!

Hi Lauren,
Thanks for your kind comments. This blog is a blessing to me as I can connect with so many wonderful men and women of God around the world.
The Daniel Fast is based on two of the prophet’s accounts of his fasting. One is from Daniel 1 and the other is from Daniel 10. These accounts, along with Jewish fasting and dietary practices are the basis for the Daniel Fast.
In Daniel 1, he ate only vegetables (which likely included fruits) and drank only water. In Daniel 10 he ate no meat and consumed no precious foods and drank no wine.
So from these brief accounts, the Daniel Fast Guidelines were developed.
Be blessed on your fast and thanks for writing!

12 Days into the fast and I feel great…The first couple of days without caffeine were hard, but the Lord saw me trough just as He sees me through in every circumstance. The week at work was pretty hard as well, we launched a new software that was not ready to be launched and the result has been stress after stress. It’s incredible the spiritual warfare that comes with fasting… but we know who stands there with us in the fire. I really had a chance to see the deliverance of the Lord. How he keeps me and how He kept me through the fire.

Praise God for your new life in Him. This certainly is a time to make sure we are building our houses on the firm foundation of God and His Word!
A total diet of organic food would be great, but it’s not always possible. In fact, even when one buys a can of beans or a bag of frozen vegetables, we can’t be assured that the growers didn’t use chemical fertilizers or pesticides.
With that said, when we fast it’s important to stay focused on the purpose of fasting and to avoid getting too caught up in the function of the fast. If organic produce and products were widely available and offered at affordable prices, they are the best choice whether we are fasting or not. But if we are not able to purchase all organic foods, making the best selection we can would not be a “fast breaker.”
This is one of those “fine lines.” In today’s world, it’s very hard to consume only organic foods . . . and so we do the best we can. Being sure to avoid chemicals in packaged foods is reasonable. But to avoid them when we are not sure, that seems to have the elements to keeping people from fasting and also losing the purpose of fasting in the first place.
So, what’s the bottom line? Try to use organic foods whenever possible. But if not, do the best you can.
I hope this helps.

I so love the Lord and which is the main reason that I decided to do this fast. This is my second time doing the fast and I must say that the hardship that I endured before doesn’t seem the same this time. What is greater is the spiritual warfare that comes with trying to give oneself and gain a closer relationship with God. I have gone through Hell so to speak. My family is falling apart, there are problems at work and I don’t have a place to call home for me and my children. I however, understand that I must continue to believe that through it all God has a purpose for me. I do so love the Lord and I will continue to spread his word to all that will listen.
The strange thing is that when I did this fast prior and looked for information on it, I was unable to find any. Today, I type in the words Daniel’s fast and your web site appears. I know it was God. Oh I so Love the Lord. Thank you and God Bless. Dee

Good morning Dee,
Have faith in God! In my experience and in the experiences of many I talk with – the enemy has been fighting to break the faith of the faithful. I have learned over the last few years to turn to the Lord as never before.
In these times of affliction, turn to the Lord! No matter what is happening, turn to the Lord. Rely on Him. Depend on Him. Praise Him! Stand on His Word and His promises. He is always true and faithful.
God bless you and thanks for your post. I am so happy your found this blog. Be blessed dear sister in Christ.

Hi from Jersey, I have been trying to Daniel Fast for the last week but I am finding that my blood sugar keeps dropping. I work with children and really can’t be dizzy, passing out or having migraines. Also, I want to be able to really pray and concentrate on God but not feeling well distracts that. My pastor asked me to stop until I feel better, which I have done, but I really know that I am suppose to do this. I am wanting to try again in Nov. do you have any suggestions about foods that will keep my sugar level up. Thanks again… becks
Susan Gregory said,
October 16, 2008 at 9:27 am
Hi Becks,
It’s hard to tell what is happening with your body. If you feel for sure that it’s a blood sugar issue, increase your intake of fruits including grapes, apples, and oranges. Those are all fruits with high natural sugar content. Also, you might want to have orange or apple juice with you during the day while you are working if you are expending a lot of energy. Juice has high sugar content and should be enough to supply all sugar needs your body requires.
I hope this helps!

I hope the very best for you on your fast. I have received many emails from men and women who have experienced healings of diabetes, cancer, menstrual issues, allergies, arthritis and more. Of course, weight loss is also a primary benefit of this fast if one stays conscious of their caloric intake.

Dear Susan…
Will you be starting a 2009 fast… For some November 29/30 marks the beginning of the Liturgical Year… and the beginning of the Advent Season. It is also the beginning of a Sabbatical Journey. Fasting, Prayer, Giving… building on a foundation gathered across years, its about faithfulness isn’t it. Its about desert time, silence and solitude. Any recommendations for the days before beginning?
Susan Gregory said,
November 18, 2008 at 11:03 am
Hi Be Peace,
I love your user name . . . what a lovely and true message and challenge.
I too follow the liturgical year and acknowledge and practice Advent. However, most of those who practice the New Year Daniel Fast use the calendar New Year. I am just finishing another eBook about Advent, Christmas and Epiphany. I hope to offer it within the next few days! I will let you know!
Be blessed!
bepeace said,

Great! I look forward to hearing more about the ebook Susan…
Can you suggest ways to use this site?
I’m not wanting to slip into ‘diet’ mode… which is where many women go when we think about fasting. It a FAST way into that dress or pair of pants.
I’ve not done that one…
I’ve done food as fuel… for sports… running… it was a good practice in daily-ness…. everyday all over again…. yesterdays miles are not a substitute for todays miles. Time on your legs builds endurance. Time resting and recovering builds strength after the effort.
More recently, I’ve done food as an available friend for comfort, for celebration…for recovery from risk taking that was a bit beyond me. Never get ahead of the Holy Spirit! or your angels!
But Fasting is not really about food is it? Its about faithfulness, our covenant relationship with God… In fasting, am I ‘testing’ my faithfulness? Is a food log a way to keep me honest during a fast? Or is it inappropriate to fasting? Fasting is a way that I can contemplate my faithfulness in slow motion across a daily practice. I’ve kept the Great Fast — which is from September 14th to Ash Wednesday. It is bread and water from noon Thursday to noon Saturday. Wow have I ’stretched’ the rules on that one this year! I keep wanting to renegotiate the fast to make it more comfortable, to suit circumstances or situation. What does that teach me about faithfulness? When does ‘wiggle-room’ become unfaithfulness?
(inhale) Be
(exhale) Peace…

I would really love to do the Daniel Fast for breakthrough from Bulemia and Obsessive-Compulsive Overeating. I’m scared and feel discouraged and wonder if this is just another ‘failure’ in my life. I would really value your prayers and any words of wisdom you have. Thank you and God Bless you for serving Him in this way.
Susan Gregory said,
November 28, 2008 at 8:50 am
Hi Js,
The best word of wisdom I can give you is, “Jesus loves you and He wants you well!”
I know you are a very smart woman . . . but sometimes even the smartest of people have issues that we must overcome. I speak on as a therapist or mental health professional, but rather as someone who has overcome major issues.
Prayer and fasting are powerful spiritual tools to use in our healing process. As we surrender ourselves to God an let Him guide and direct us, then we move toward health, goodness and life.
The Daniel Fast will not give you a breakthrough. My guess is that you already know that we must want to activate the positive and life-giving power within us! Just like giving our lives to Jesus, it is a choice.
I believe the Holy Spirit led you to the Daniel Fast blog and He wants to teach and comfort you as you walk toward healing. I encourage you to get help from those who have gone before you and know the struggles you have, but also know how to partner with the Holy Spirit to bring healing to your body, soul and spirit.
Here is a site you might want to try: http://www.cwlinc.com/anorexia-and-bulimia.htm
Also, there is a very good book that isn’t necessarily on eating disorders, but it is on changing the way we think so we can fully live the life God wants for us. It’s called, “The 4:8 Principle,” by Tommy Newberry. It’s based on Philippians 4:8 where Paul instructs us to “think on these things.”
I encourage anyone reading this message to look into that book. It is powerful and helpful for anyone who wants a better life and wants to experience the will of God!
Be blessed as you move toward healing and life!

Hello!
This will be my first Daniel fast and as I prepare my heart, I am convicted that this will be hard! BUT, He is my strength and my redeemer. He is my fortress, the God in whom I trust. I want to glorify Him in all my thoughts and deeds.
He saved me and I want to spend the rest of my life to further His kingdom! So we each need to be sure we are right with Him. That there is no barrier between us and the Lord Almighty. That is my hope, my quest. To seek Him with an open heart, to listen for the ’still small voice’ in the storm.
It is my prayer that all of us can truly set ourselves aside and learn from Him, learn to listen, to follow, lead and by His humble servant.
God Bless

Dearest Valerie,
God is so good. The Word says that He draws near to us when we draw near to Him. He so wants a close relationship with each of us. He wants us to depend on Him, to trust in Him, and to get to know Him.
Christ says that He and the Father will dwell in us as we follow His commandments. I encourage you to read John Chapters 14-17 over and over again as you enter this time of prayer and fasting. Let the truth of Christ get deeply rooted into your spirit. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you. He is faithful, always.
Receive the blessings of the Lord as you grow in the love and knowledge of Christ.

It is my desire to draw spiritually closer to God. There is so much power in the word of God. I am inspired by the various testimonies as to what the daniel fast has done for their lives and how the negative things supernaturally turned positive. I want to experience the promises of God in my life and my families life. There seems to be one struggles after another with out a break. If it be a curse or what ever it is, this trend needs to stop. I know God is our provider but answers to our prayers seem a long time coming. I am inpired by the daniel fast. Please add me to your list.
Susan Gregory said,
July 13, 2009 at 10:07 am
Hi Victoria,
Thanks for writing! You are so correct that the negative experiences in the life of believers must stop. We have authority over the enemy – Jesus gained that power for us and gave it to us. But we need to do our part by abiding in His word and following His ways. One of those ways is to declare the truth of God’s Word over our lives.
You are a child of the Most High God. You are an heir to the Kingdom! But we must learn to walk in this citizenship and by faith. That is our part of the equation. God is ready to pour out His love and power over us, but we must access it by faith . . . and faith comes by hearing and hearing by the word of God.
The Daniel Fast is a perfect time to “press into God” so that His promises about the issues in our lives are more truthful to us than the circumstances . . . and then we enter the good fight of faith to receive what the Lord has for us. Jesus taught us, “Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.” Mark 11:24
The verse gives me a challenge! I am called to “believe I receive.” That takes faith and that comes by spending time with the Lord and His Word. God is so good. He has abundant love to pour out over us, but we must co-labor with Him by exercising our faith by trusting Him and believing He is Who He says He is and that He will do what He says He will do
Praise God!

Good morning Kelly,
Thanks for your lovely post. I hope the very best for you and your husband on this fast on for your ministry. God is so good and He truly blesses those who diligently seek Him!
Yes, you can be on the Daniel Fast for an extended period of time. I have used the fast for as long as 50 days and of course, individuals who chose a vegan diet would follow this type of eating all year long (although the Daniel Fast is even more restrictive).

I am starting the Daniel Fast on Tomorrow, 8/9/09. I plan to get up at 12:00 midnight for prayer. I have read your materials and have taken several steps to prepare for the fast. I have tried to complete many
spirtual devotionals and other ideas in the past and have not successfully completed them. I have not been on a fast in many years and I am seeking your prayers for discipline and my ability to stick the next 21 days. Thank you in advance for your prayers and support.

Good morning dear Lisa,
Even as I write these words, I am asking the Father to pour out His blessing on you as you seek after Him. Remember, He rewards those who diligently seek Him.
I would like to encourage you to have one of our focuses for the fast to develop “self-control,” which is one of the fruits of the spirit. As you develop this fruit, you will find staying on the fast much easier. Walk in the spirit and keep your eyes on Christ.

Thank you very much for this site I believe it was Spirit lead from my site since I started fasting yesterday with my helper and I actually cheated and now was feeling like I need direction that will keep me on track without having to cheat and this is the answer. Today I’ve done well so far and I believe I’m going from strength to strength.
I’m a singer in the church and I know that God needs my full attention which I’ve been giving to other less important things that frustrated me at the end so now this time I’m doing this and I’m openingmy heart to recieve direction from Him only.
God bless you for helping people like me.

Dearest Tsidi,
Your Daniel Fast is bringing you to a confrontation that we also contend with in other areas – the spirit vs. the flesh. When we give into cravings, we are allowing our flesh to have control. When we stick with the fast, we are putting our spirit in authority and ordering our flesh to “sit down and be quiet.”
I encourage you to get into the Word of God and find scriptures that you can declare over your spirit, soul and body each morning and several times each day. Stay with God and you will do well!

I started the fast two days ago, with James River Assembly, a church I attend in Ozark, MO. I’ve never fasted, but I am really excited about taking this time to seek God in obedience, and love. Thanks for all of your posts, and information!

Hello. My church introduced the 21-day Daniel Fast to us last week and asked people in the congregation to join the pastors in doing so. However, it is not an obligation. We are praying and fasting for a revival in our own church as well as our community but I am personally doing it to draw closer to the Lord after a very hard year. Not to mention the wonderful benefit of losing weight but that is not my main objective.
Today is Day 2. Yesterday was hard being the first day of the partial fast. I have had a constant headache but I hear that is normal for the first few days. I am not a good cook at all so I am trying to find ways to cook the vegetables and fruit in a way that is appetizing but fairly easy to do.
Many people, including myself, find that dieting or partial fasting can be very physically, mentally, and spiritually challenging. But I want to encourage you to not think of it as a diet…think of it as denying yourself…dying to self to be closer to the Lord Almighty. For He is worthy to be praised with our spirit, our mind, and our physical bodies.
I did not realize this until recently. All the junk food that I ate was just killing my body in so many ways. About 3 weeks ago God led me to desire cleansing my body on the inside. He heard my prayer and the prayers of others and this was introduced to us. Praise the Lord! He does answer prayers…sometimes the exact way you expect and other times it is completely the opposite.
Thank you for this site as it helps tremendously!

Hello Jennifer,
Thank you so much for your post. My prayer for you is that you will grow in Christ during your fast. I also encourage you and others to develop the fruit of self-control during the Daniel Fast. It’s amazing how taking our focus off food and onto to developing our spiritual fruits leads us toward success.
Be blessed, dear one!

Praise the Lord for this website, I had no idea where God was sending me. I was looking for something total different, however I am just realizing that they both go together so I am where God wants me in Jesus name.
My question is I read you said to check off with my physician first, that’s find. My question is how often can Daniel’s fast be taken. Is there too much too fast kind of thing? May the Blessings of God continue my your ministry.

Hi Mary,
Many people totally change their eating habits after they have been on the Daniel Fast. They experience such a great improvement in their health that they want it to last. The Daniel Fast is a very healthy way to eat. To stay on the eating plan long term however, you would probably want to add appropriate amounts of protein and perhaps add some calcium. Again, it would be important to check with your physician.
Be blessed!
