Peanut Butter and the Daniel Fast

Peanut butter is a great source of protein while on the Daniel Fast. You’ll want to read the label when you purchase peanut butter for the fast to make sure it’s free of sugar and chemicals. Look for 100% Peanut Butter. There are several brands.

My favorite is Adams Natural Peanut Butter. Granted, you need to keep their products stirred, but that’s one of the prices of not having hydrogenated shortening in your peanut butter. I would far prefer to stir!

I’ve used this peanut butter for more than 35 years! I love the flavor and it contains peanuts. No more, no less. Just peanuts, which makes it a perfect Daniel Food ingredient for some sauces and for using with celery or other vegetables.

  6. Hi, can we add salt to our food ?

  7. I buy it from my local grocery store – have for years. It’s commonly available. I live in Washington State. Not sure if it’s available in California. Adams is one of the oldest pure peanut butters around.

Hope you can find it. It’s usually on the shelves with all the other peanut butters.

Skippy peanut butter has ingredients that are not allowed on the Daniel Fast. When reading the ingredients look for a list of ingredients that has only Peanuts, or Peanuts and Salt. Adams 100% Natural is a good alternative. Be Blessed on your Fast!

    Hi Marsha,
Deep fried foods are not allowed on the fast. However, you can bake them in the oven. I hope this helps!

    Hi Mo,
Agave is a natural sweetener, however there are no sweeteners of any kind is allowed on the fast. A good peanut butter should have as its ONLY Ingredients: Peanuts….and maybe some salt. Adams 100% Natural Peanut Butter is one that we can recommend. I hope this helps!

    Hi Trevor,
You need to be reading the Ingredients list, this is where you will see the foods that have been added in. The Glycemic carbohydrates of the food is listed in the nutritional list. I hope this helps.

    Hi Liz,
I am not sure, but here is a link to a calorie calculator. Enter in all your ingredients (for any recipe, it’s pretty cool) and it will calculate the nutitional information for you: http://caloriecount.about.com/cc/recipe_analysis.php Enjoy!

No, Cane juice is another name for sugar, so no cane juice on the fast. Your coconut milk ingredients should read something like: Coconut and water. Be blessed!

    January 22, 2013
  22. So to further clarify the coconut milk issue – if I purchased all natural coconut milk and do NOT see sugar or any “ose” in the ingredients list although I DO see cane juice, can it be used for RECIPE purposes only?

Thank God so much for the insight given to you regarding the Daniel Fast. I am so thankful to have found this site. The blogs are definitely very helpful because they answer a lot of questions that we sometimes do not even think to ask. Again thanks and I am enjoying this journey. God bless and keep you.

There are no sweeteners of any kind allowed on the fast (natural or artificial). Although agave nectar is plant based it is still a sweetener and not allowed while on the fast. Peanut butter should be made only from peanuts and maybe salt, to comply with the Daniel Fast guidelines. Our favorite brand is Adam’s 100% Natural). Be Blessed!

It appears this comes from another persons fast guide. I was able to find a reference in the Foods to Avoid list that reads “Vinegar – made by a fermentation process like wine”. The irony of this is that the list of foods ok to use contains: “Baking soda- all natural” and “Stevia”. It appears there are different teachings for the fast. I have read your excellent reasoning for not using sweetners at all. Dates work well for an occasional sweetening agent. Not sure where you would use baking soda, since I assumed it was a raising agent. Happy to use the vinegar though!

Tawana, I just wanted you to know I am praying for you. I felt an urge to do so immediately upon reading your post. I am still deciding myself as I feel led to fast but not sure what I am going to give up and also don’t want to disrupt my wife’s life. God is good and He will be faithful and support no matter what!

    Hi Jennie,
Kinda, Sorta…The only beverage on the Daniel Fast is water. Blended fruits and vegetables (made more hearty like Smoothies) are considered a “meal replacement.” So these are allowed on the Daniel Fast. Just juicing carrots would be too close to drinking juice than a smooothie meal replacement. . . . so you just need to keep within the fine lines of this distinction. Be blessed!

    Hi Naeema,
Make sure you are reading the INGREDIENTS list and not the Nutritional list when you read the label. The Ingredients List is the one you want to look at to see if sugar has been Added in (which is not allowed), the sugars that are Naturally derived from foods are allowed on the fast, and will show only in the Nutritional list (which based on there being only 1gram, I am guessing, that this is where you were seeing it). If so, and the rest of the ingredients comply, then this would be a good option for the fast. Also, Adams 100% Natural Peanut Butter is one we can recommend for the fast. Be Blessed in your Journey!

What about Natural penut butter that has 1g of sugar, is that not aloud either. I found it really hard to find peanut butter without sugar even the natural ones

    January 10, 2013
  32. Not of the foods you mentioned are allowed on the Daniel Fast. No sweeteners, no matter the source of the “sweetness.” Cocao has caffeine and therefore not allowed.

Is raw cocao powder allowed? I know that sweetners aren’t allowed, but does that also include stevia which is from the stevia plant? What about agave nectar?
