Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.” Daniel 1:12

“In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant food, no meat or wine came into my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.” ——Daniel 10:2, 3

This blog is designed as a “gathering place” for information and resources about the Daniel Fast to serve those seeking God in this manner. Please “cruise” the blog. Remember, this is a blog format, so you will need to page down to see all the posts. Also, leave comments if you have ideas, questions, or comments.

Hello Susan, thank you for all of your information. On day three of my fast I became very light-headed. After reading up on the fast, I realized this was normal. But now, I have burning in my feet that I have not had before. Could the fast be causing this?

My question is about salad dressings, any recommendations?

    January 9, 2016
  6. Easiest to make your own. I whisk together lemon juice, olive oil, unsweetened Dijon, salt and pepper.

Few prepared dressings are acceptable. The only one I use is Newman’s Own Oil and Vinegar.

    Be blessed.

  7. Yes, they are acceptable.

  8. Yes, it’s okay.

Tartaric acid is a white crystalline organic acid that occurs naturally in many plants, most notably in grapes. Its salt, potassium bitartrate, commonly known as cream of tartar, develops naturally in the process of winemaking.

  9. I’ve never heard of burning feet. It is like something else, unless it’s part of the detox your body is experiencing.

  10. All water is allowed. You’re good to go 🙂

  13. My husband and I will have a date night while I am in the midst of the fast. What restaurants have you found to work well? I know a grocery salad bar would work, but is it realistic to go to a nice sit down place?

  15. Hi Susan:

I am from Puerto Rico and I started today the Daniel Fast. My question is, if as a breakfast, corn meal is allowed? I read the nutritional fact and it just have 1 gram of sugar and it says is All Natural. It is ok if I consume it with unsweetened almond milk and cinnamon?

    January 11, 2016
  16. Hi Susan:

Is corn meal allowed? The label says it all natural and just have 1 gram of sugar.

Are you able to eat tortillas? According to the facts, they have no yeast in them?

Can a type 2 diabetic do the Daniel fast? Meds are to be taken w/ foods. Can I continue my liquid protein drinks? Which is the main source of my plan. More protein less carbs? Thank you. I find you to be very helpful and knowledgeable.

  19. Hi,

I did the black beans hummus recipe and I was wondering if there is any tortilla chips/crackers brand that you recommend. Before starting the fast, I usually ate the Food Should be Good Multigrain tortilla chips. Those doesn’t have sugar (just 1 gram) and among the ingredients contains the following: Stone Ground Corn, High Oleic Sunflower Oil and/or Safflower Oil and/or Canola Oil, Brown Rice Flour, Flax Seeds, Cane Sugar, Sesame Seeds, Sunflower Seeds, Quinoa, Sea Salt, Rosemary Extract. Is there any ingredient that shouldn’t be consumed?

  20. Can all purpose flour be used in a recipe for matzah bread using only oil and water?

    January 11, 2016
  21. All purpose whole wheat flour would be allowed. Only whole grains on the Daniel Fast.

    January 11, 2016
  22. Cane sugar not allowed on the fast, so those are out. It’s really hard to find acceptable tortilla chips. No deep fried foods, so they need to be baked. then they need to be free of any sweetener and/or chemicals.

I use the bean dip with sliced vegetables including carrots, cucumbers, celery, and radishes.

If you want to have a cracker, try Original Trisquits. One of the few that works for the Daniel Fast.

  23. Hi Carol,

Yes, most people with type 2 diabetes do very well on the Daniel Fast and are able to control their blood sugar with food rather than meds. Watch your blood sugar levels while on the fast. Be wise. And stay away from super sugary fruits.

Protein shakes are great. You can make them with frozen berries, nut butters. unsweetened soy milk, nuts and seeds.

    January 11, 2016
  24. Rarely are store-bought tortillas okay for the Daniel Fast. If they are made of whole grains and then free of animal products (ie lard), sweeteners, leaveners, and/or chemicals, they would probably be okay. Very hard to find.

    January 11, 2016
  25. Yes, it’s okay. If the sugar is an ingredient, then it wouldn’t be okay. But it’s in the nutritional analysis (naturally derived) so it’s okay.

    January 11, 2016
  26. Agfalu,

The key is the ingredients, and not the nutritional value when we decide of foods for the Daniel Fast. So you are okay!

    Be blessed

    January 11, 2016
  27. I’m not sure of those ingredients. I do know that Original Triscuits are okay. Read the list of ingredients on foods you consider to make sure they are okay for the fast.

    January 11, 2016
  28. Hard to find. Chinese might be a possibility.

I’ve gone to restaurants and asked for baked sweet potatoes or regular baked potatoes topped with steamed vegetables and then drizzles with olive oil.

You might choose to do something other that eating out for date night. Eat at home and then do a non-food related activity for your date . . . problems solved 🙂

    Be blessed!

  29. Is psyllium husk allowed on the fast?

    January 11, 2016
  30. Yes.

    January 11, 2016
  31. No on the Cheerios. You can have oatmeal or muesli!

    January 11, 2016
  32. Depends. Naturally derived? Yes. Artificial? No.

Potassium sorbate is a salt of sorbic acid which is naturally found in some fruits (like the berries of mountain ash). The commercial ingredient is synthetically produced creating what is termed a “nature identical” chemical (chemically equivalent to the molecule found in nature).

    January 11, 2016
  33. Yes, Jeremy. You’re good to go . . . and thanks for the encouragement. 🙂

I found a peanut butter that just include peanuts and hydrogenated vegetable oil. Is that type of oil good or bad during the fast?

Trader joes has a really great vegan balsamic soy ginger vinaigrette and marinade that has no preservatives, gluten free, and non gmo. I’m sure there are plenty other flavors but this is my fave. Hope it helps!

This link is to a recipe for “date honey ” – is this okay? It’s all natural, but I want to be certain I am staying within the guidelines since it is still a sweetener. Thanks!
