Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.” Daniel 1:12

“In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant food, no meat or wine came into my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.” ——Daniel 10:2, 3

DFfbWelcome! The purpose of this site is to offer valuable and complete information about the Daniel Fast. As the Daniel Fast Blogger, my #1 goal is to help you have a successful fasting experience. More and more Christian men and women are choosing the Daniel Fast as their guideline to enter into the spiritual discipline. While the Daniel Fast is a partial fast, (rather than total abstention from all food) it still provides many of the attributes of denying the self and seeking God.

This blog is designed as a “gathering place” for information and resources about the Daniel Fast to serve those seeking God in this manner. Please “cruise” the blog. Remember, this is a blog format, so you will need to page down to see all the posts. Also, leave comments if you have ideas, questions, or comments.

Also, join our Facebook community! It’s a powerful way to stay connected to others who are seeking God through an extended period of prayer and fasting.

  1. It all depends on the ingredients. Only food grown from seed can be eaten on the Daniel Fast (fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, healthy oils); the only beverage is water; salt, spices, herbs are allowed. No sweetners of any kind, no chemicals or food additives, no leavening agents, no alcohol or stimulants.

  5. No, not with the hydrogenated vegetable oil.

Look for peanut butter that is made only with peanuts, and perhaps a little salt. They are widely available now at most supermarkets. I use Adam’s Peanut Butter.

    Are dates ok?

    January 15, 2016
  8. Thanks for your response. I think I should read the link that you posted regarding the repentance. I thought that PB was ok and I consumed it with fruit and rice cakes; also the milk that I usually consume is almond milk but I forgot to read THAT label (contains cane sugar), and I used it with a smoothie, corn meal, and oatmeal. Not anymore though… I’ve tried to be very careful with what I eat but somehow I missed those details. Thank you for your guidance.

  9. Yes, however “date honey,” a popular homemade sweetener is not. It’s a fine line and all has to do with motive.

    Be blessed on your fast.

Thank you for all that you do to support people’s DF journey. I’m praying for a very specific thing, a mend in a relationship. I see God working behind the scenes, but I’m wondering if I should do the DF longer than 3 weeks? Would God see 3.5 or 4 or 4.5 as anything different than the 3 weeks? I’m really ready to be done as I just began my 3rd week and it’s a challenge, but maybe I need to give more of a sacrifice and do it longer. What are your thoughts? Thanks for your advice.

Can I eat Cream of Wheat?

    January 23, 2016
  13. If it’s made from whole wheat, then yes. Serve it with unsweetened plant-based milk along with fresh or dried fruit and nuts for a very hearty breakfast.

    January 23, 2016
  14. Yes, ascorbic acid is naturally derived from citric fruits.

  15. I suggest you seek a “release” from the Lord. He may want you to contend longer for the matter.

Remember, however, that you don’t earn God’s favor by your actions. Jesus is the One earns our righteousness before God. So fasting longer doesn’t mean God will be happier with you or want to reward you more.

Fasting is to draw you nearer to God, to contend for issues and breakthroughs, to learn more. It’s not to earn grace

Be blessed as you continue to grow in the love and knowledge of Jesus.

  19. The Daniel Fast is a method of fasting. It’s a way for people to enter into the spiritual discipline of fasting. Some people use a liquid fast. Some fast water only during daylight hours. There are many methods of fasting. The Daniel Fast is one.

Hi, my name is yessenia. I felt the Lord place in my heart to do the Daniel Fast for 21 days, but I failed today. It was my first time fasting for so long, and I feel like I wasn’t prepared. It felt like I was fighting my flesh not to eat, and as soon as I did I felt so guilty. I cried, and I still feel very horrible and sad. I feel like I hurt the Lord, and He is upset with me. Though I am planning on redoing my Daniel Fast tomorrow. I learned from this, and it showed me a weakness in me.

Hi, Susan! What is considered “chemical-free”? I want to purchase some a particular brand of almond milk…however, it has tricalcium phosphate in it. Wikipedia shows it as a chemical compound of calcium salt and phosphate. The medical dictionary list it as a mineral. What are your thoughts?
