DFfbWelcome! The purpose of this site is to offer valuable and complete information about the Daniel Fast. As the Daniel Fast Blogger, my #1 goal is to help you have a successful fasting experience. More and more Christian men and women are choosing the Daniel Fast as their guideline to enter into the spiritual discipline. While the Daniel Fast is a partial fast, (rather than total abstention from all food) it still provides many of the attributes of denying the self and seeking God.

    Hey Susan,
    Your site is awesome and is full of great information. Though it would be nice if people posted if they’ve had any breakthroughs and how they’re being blessed or if they are struggling with anything so it would help others. I have 3 kids and homeschool two of them, and alot of times babysit my friends 2 year old. My house has people in and out and up all the time, so it is extremely difficult for me to have alone time with God, seriously I can’t even get that in the bathroom. The four adults in my household are on the Daniel fast and we’re heading into day 14 in a few minutes, and I’m just getting really frustrated and am not sure what to do. This is a very stressful time of year financially, I currently don’t have a vehicle, and communication between my husband and I is extremely stressed, and I’m just not sure what to do. Please keep me in your prayers!!!

    On another note, one of my housemates mentioned the other day that she needed another queen size bed and not two days later a friend of mine was getting rid of her queen size bed and didn’t know if anyone needed one. Sometimes it’s ask and you shall receive!!! God’s just amazing!!!

    How much and how often do you eat.
    In everyday life I hardly sit and have thrre square meals I just do constant nibbling.

    Eating 4 almonds every 2 hours doesn’t seem right.

    How many meals or snacks would you recommend and how many times each day?

    Hello Daniel Fast Bloggers,
    I am currently seeking a closer relationship with my Lord and Savior b/c I have a deep yearning desire to reach a higher level of communication with Jesus. I am in prayer and seeking His answer to the Fast. I had never heard of the Fast until the other day while talking with my friend Melissa and her church has started the 21-day Fast. She and I were discussing all that is going on in our lives and the stress that it is causing and what it is doing to us physically and emotionally and she told me about the Fast. She did not begin the Fast with the rest of the church because of all this ‘stuff’, so I asked her to send me some info about it and told her to be in prayer and agreement with me that we will begin this together and help support each other. I am asking for all of the DF bloggers to pray for us as our journey begins to cleansing our minds and bodies of impurities and giving us a closer walk with Jesus. I look forward to the end of this 21-day journey to see where Jesus leads us.

    I have only been fasting since this past Sunday and I had been really depressed for a while. Today i noticed the joy of the Lord I had not experienced for quite a while and a lightness also! God is good! Although I probably haven’t fasted in years now it seems quite natural and I’m praising God for His grace. Just signed up for the daily newsletter. Thank YOU!

    Thank you for the reply!

    He is using the fruit spread on whole wheat Matzos cracker.
    Ingredients: unbleached whole wheat flour.

    I also made a bread out of whole wheat flour. Ingredients: 100% hard red whole wheat flour.
    I mixed it with canola oil, water and unsweetened soy milk ONLY.
    It looks like Indian bread.

  11. No. The Daniel Fast is totally plant based (the prophet ate only pulse – foods grown from seed – and drank only water) as described in Daniel 1. So, yogurt is out.

    The better matzo to purchase is the whole wheat variety. It has only whole wheat flour and water. By the way, a great snack is rice cakes. I get those in the natural foods section and their only ingredients are brown rice and water. Great with peanut butter and raisins for breakfast or a hearty snack or just plain.

    I love Trader Joe’s and shopped there all the time when I lived in Seattle. But now I am in a small college town with only a few options. Great tip EXCEPT that the muffins will have leavening in them, which is not allowed on the Daniel Fast. The smoothie, as a liquid meal, is a great option. The only beverage on the Daniel Fast is water.

    Yes, dates are allowed on the Daniel Fast. When you start trying to “eat as Daniel ate” rather than use his fasting experiences for the basis of the fast, it gets real sticky. That’s why there are just a few major boundaries and then it’s up to the individual to decide on some of the gray details. Dates might be a dessert for your friend, so he/she can abstain from them. But if you use them in your recipes, then they would be fine.

  16. Yes, fruit spreads are a good choice. Best would be if they are organic to make sure the citric acid is naturally derived. My guess is that the citric acid in this brand is naturally derived because of the other ingredients.

    I’m curious how he is using the fruit spread since raised breads are not allowed? They are great with hot whole grain cereal.

    Your fast is great, but it’s not a Daniel Fast. There are many methods of fasting. The Daniel Fast is the most popular partial fast and used by thousands around the world. But it’s not the only way to fast.

    Hi Susan,
    I was wondering if Fruit spread was okay? My husband has been
    using the Polaner All fruit 100% all natural fruit spread. Sweetened
    ONLY with fruit and fruit juice. The only ingredients are:
    Juice concentrates (pear, grape), strawberries. fruit pectin, citric acid and
    natural flavor.

    Hi Susan, i´m Jemima and i´m from Venezuela. I joined to the Awakenig 21 to fast and pray for 21 days. I scheduled the days of my fasting, i decided not to eat red meat, coffee and canned food, i also decided to fast 2 days a week, in these days i just drink water or juice. I also fast 3 days a week, in these days i don´t take breakfast. When i eat, i just eat salads and healthy food, i´m not eating high-fat food or unhealthy food. I want to know if this is ok?? Am i fasting in a good way??

    I also joined to the Newthru30 program from Elevation Church, which challenges us to read through the New Testament in 30 days!!

    These are not common symtoms of detox, but they could still be part of the cleansing process your body is experiencing. In today’s world, we put so many different chemicals into our bodies, that when we give it only filtered water and healthy foods . . . it starts to rid itself of all the toxins that have been built up. If the symptoms you are experiencing become a concern, check with your health provider.

    Regarding protein shakes . . . READ THE LABEL to see if the ingredients are consistent with the Daniel Fast Guidelines, which are available at http://www.Daniel-Fast.com

    I have been using the Daniel Fast at least once a year for the past 25+ years… In the original form, it was done with just vegetables, and that is the way I continue to do it… However, some of the modifications you have suggested (grains, etc) are an excellent way to eat all the time.. and for those who do not eat this way it is a wonderfu lway to fast when health conditions are such that a full Daniel Fast would not be healthful.

    I always remember the instructions in the original directive for the Daniel Fast: if you were eating all fruit you would not eat only prunes, so when eating all vegetables don’t eat only salads!

    To answer this specific question, the Daniel Fast does not restrict when or how much one eats. However, some people add this practice to their fast.

    The Daniel Fast is a plant-based eating plan so the shrimp and crab would not be allowed. The tomato basil soup might be okay, but you need to READ THE LABEL to find what ingredients are included in the mixture to make sure they are consistent with the Daniel Fast Guidelines (available at http://www.Daniel-Fast.com).

    The sodium benzoate in this drink could be naturally derived from fruit, but it’s likely a man-made chemical. Vitamins and supplemenets are acceptable on the Daniel Fast if the ingredients comply with the Guidelines. So you can make the call as to what is right for you.

    When I have been in these situations, I ask the Holy Spirit to help me and He has always given me what I need.

    Also, be sure to slowly reintroduce foods to your diet as your body has become accustomed to the Daniel Fast eating plan.

I am on my second day of the fast and feel great, I enjoyed picking out the food and seeing only good things, but most of all I enjoy my talks with God. My question to you is what do you do once you come off the Fast? Is there some kind of ceremony something I should do the last day of the fast or the day after.

    HI Susan . I am doing the Daniel Fast for the first time . Thank you so much for the resources you have provided. I am taking a supplement drink called Univera. It is a liquid form of vitamins our body needs that are depleted out of most fruits and vegetables.The only preservative that is in it sodium benzoate. I looked it up online and benzoate is also fruits. Is this o.k to have during a fast?? Are regular vitamins o.k?

    This sounds like detox and may be a reaction to the different foods you are consoming. Some foods to create more bloating at first (if they are new to you or not typical in your diet). It should pass, but note what kinds of foods you are eating and drink at least 1/2 gallon of water a day (colorless urine is a good sign of being well-hydrated).

    Susan, I have not read through all the posts so I don’t know if you answered this before or not, so I apologize in advance if you did. I am on my 3rd day of the Daniel Fast, 1st day was water only. Yesterday and today, I feel SO bloated…my pants even feel tight where they didn’t before. Is this normal? Is there something I can do about it? Thank you!

    Hello, I wanted to post an interesting question. I am on my second day of the 21 day fast. And i have come to conclusion that i suffer from some kind of raw food allergy. I have tried apples, grapes, melons etc…. and i start itch, get a tingling feeling and feel nausiated. I need to find a substitute. I also want to know if i am able to drink protein shakes?

    Many years ago a friend shared a simple idea that I have always treasured whenever I get too “busy”. Satan loves to see Christians so busy that we don’t have time to seek out time with the Lord, our family, the things that matter the most. BUSY stands for “Being Under Satan’s Yoke”. I also appreciate that you stress in several areas about the fact that the fast is between the faster and God; not to get bogged down with the legalities and not to quit a fast because you find out you have un-knowingly made a mistake.   40. Yes, you can have peanut butter (and other nut butters) as long as the ingredients comply with the Daniel Fast Guidelines (available at http://www.Daniel-Fast.com). The best is organic 100% peanut butter.

    Also, a great snack (or even breakfast) is peanut butter on a rice cake (made from brown rice and water) 🙂
