The Daniel Plan is not at all about fasting. It’s a way of eating in a healthy manner. The Daniel Fast is a method of fasting, which is a spiritual discipline to draw nearer to God and seek His guidance and wisdom.
Hello Susan,
I have a question for you to see if you can help me to understand the different between the “Daniel Fasting and the Daniel Plan.”
In the Daniel Plan, we could eat meat but in the Daniel Fasting, we could not eat meat. Can you explain?
Lana
Hi Abby,
Although plant based and natural, Stevia and agave are a sweetener and there are no sweeteners (natural or artificial) allowed on the fast. I hope this helps!
What are your thoughts on using a meal replacement shake during the fast? The one I am referring to is called Shakeology. It does contain natural ingredients and is sweetened with stevia and agave.

Hi Regina,
We are happy to provide you with an overview of the Daniel Fast: The Daniel Fast is a type of fast based on the combined fasting/mourning experiences of the prophet along with typical Jewish fasting principles.
Susan Gregory has spent years researching the Daniel Fast. The two foundational scriptures for the fast are:
Daniel 1:12 “Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.” Pulse is food grown from seed . . . corn, potatoes, wheat, rice, fruit and the like are all considered grown from seed. (Water only, no dairy/meat).
Dan. 10:3 – I ate no pleasant or desirable food, nor did any meat or wine come into my mouth; and I did not anoint myself at all for the full three weeks. Because of this, we eat no sweeteners of any kind, no deep fried foods and no fancy desserts. We also don’t use any stimulants such as caffeine or alcohol.
Finally, we look to the typical Jewish fasting principles. This primarily impacts leavening – so no yeast breads or foods with leavening are allowed. So you see the only restriction on food preparation is no deep frying. Foods can be cooked as in steamed, baked, broiled, boiled, and even a light stir fry is fine.
I do encourage you to go into deeper study about the Daniel Fast. Remember, we are not trying to reenact the prophet’s fast, but rather use the experiences to serve as guidelines for a partial fast that can be experienced by people today.
You will find a wealth of information about the Daniel Fast on this blog and on my website at http://www.Daniel-Fast.com All the resources you need for a successful and biblical Daniel Fast are here. If you are interested in learning more about the fast, you might want to get a copy of The Daniel Fast where Susan Gregory goes into great depth about fasting and the Daniel Fast in particular. I hope this helps

Im Terri Moore and this is my first time, I’ve started today 1/7/15. I only had water since this morning its now 1:30 noon and still going strong until 4pm, reading on to see how to eat and what. On Thursday’s the church youth ministry fast for winning body’s to Christ. I’m starting to get a closer walk and wisdom/understanding. Through Christ all things are possible.
The only beverage on the Daniel Fast is water (see Daniel 1). You can use juice in recipes or in breakfast smoothies.
This will be my first time doing Daniel Fast
My husband and I started our fast today. We started our morning by reading the devotional. Then we prayed together for God’s leading and guidance. After that I made a fruit smoothie with bananas, frozen cherries, and a little almond milk. Then I prepared a squash soup for lunch and I am now slow cooking a vegetable stew for supper to serve with a nice toss salad. All things are possible for those who believe and trust in Him. God bless.
Awesome! This is my first time doing it. Any pointers you would like to share for people like me who is doing this for the first time.
Our God is so awesome, I can’t wait to see what he has in store for my family and I.
