Who is The Daniel Fast Blogger?

Susan Gregory   110 West 6th Ave, Box 292   Ellensburg, WA 98926

Hi Friends,

My name is Susan Gregory – a.k.a. The Daniel Fast Blogger. I’m writing today because so many people think this weblog is the work of some big company or ministry . . . so I wanted to introduce myself to you because we are becoming a grassroots community of everyday Christian men and women who want to deepen our relationship with Christ.

This last year was been one of great transition for me (I know many of you are saying, “Me, too!”). I believe this has been a pruning period (see Matthew 15:2) and also a time when God gave me my appointment to return to Christian writing. In that appointment, came an assignment . . . to help get the word out about the Daniel Fast.

On December 4, 2007 I started this blog. I have fasted many times and used the Daniel Fast for longer fasts. So I just started writing about what I knew and also tapped into the many resources I have available to me in my personal faith-building library.

The first day the blog had 7 hits. But within a week the daily count was more than 600 hits. And within 10 days the hit count was just short of 1000. I started hearing from readers asking questions and I could see the kind of information people were seeking. That’s why I wrote The Daniel Fast for the Body, Soul and Spirit and later The Daniel Fast Cookbook – Version I.

Words are not adequate to express the deep and very heart-felt appreciation I have for all of you who have purchased the books. You truly are making it possible for me to abandon all other work so that I can give all my focus to obeying God and the assignment He has for me.

The year 2007 was one of the most difficult of my life . . . and I praise God for His goodness and for being right beside me as I have learned more and more about “fighting the good fight of faith.” I know many of you know exactly what I am talking about, because you also have had to battle the strongholds that have tried to crush us. The enemy’s only goal is to steal, kill and destroy God’s people. But as we stand firm on God’s Word and His promises . . . we will overcome.

I believe with all my heart that 2008 is a new beginning. That the strongholds are coming down even now . . . and that there are great battles going on in the heavenly realms (read Daniel 10).  I don’t think it’s a coincidence that thousands of Christian men and women are hearing that still small voice in their spirit telling them to pray and fast.

God is good. He loves us with an immeasurable love. And He is ALWAYS victorious. As we abide in Him . . . and we enter into His Secret Place and dwell in the Almighty . . . then we have access to a realm that the world doesn’t even know exists. I can only believe that God is raising up an army of warriors to make His Light shine in the darkness.

It is no coincidence that you are reading these words even now . . . God is ministering to you as He is to tens of thousands of others. He is calling us! As we draw near to Him, He draws near to us . . . and He wants us close so that He can love us, care for us, and use us!

I am looking forward to a glorious year! And I am so glad that God has given me this honor to be able to interact with so many others who also are heeding the call of our Lord.

God bless you and thank you again for your words of encouragement and blessing, for your support by buying the books, and for your willingness to join with other members in the Body of Christ as we raise up the Name of Jesus and truly behold our King!

All I can say is YES…

Yes…this is a season of great manifestation of the unseen things found only in the inner courts of the Secret Place. This is the place that we will have to push through. The Holy Spirit has put an unquenchable desire in my heart to get the heart of God. I am a worshiper and I want to go deeper.

Yes I know what it feels like to have the Holy Spirit fill a room and to have everyone just drunk in the spirit, but I want more. I want to go deeper. I want to hear God whisper the secret things of heaven. I want to be so sensitive to his voice that all he has to do is whisper. I have been around my same “mountain” long enough. I am ready to go deeper. I am ready for the next dimension in Christ. I have given up relationships and so many other things, because I don’t want anything to hinder me from moving into the divine place that God has for me.

One thing the Holy Spirit has made very clear is that if “we” miss this first new season of 2008, that it will affect the rest of our lives. That is why we are filled this urgency. Everything must go on the altar of God. He and he alone will decide who or what is allowed to stay in our lives, because where we are going we will not be able to take some folks with us. Some of us will have to walk alone and that is okay, because the reward will be so amazing. We have an amazing love for the one we call our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Let us be pleasing in your sight Heavenly Father. We dedicate our lives to your service and to your will. We will follow you with joy and gladness because you are our first love. Use the Daniel Fast to help us purge and purify our hearts toward you. Burn away the dross and allow us to shine as pure gold for you and for your glory.

    In His Amazing Love,

    Marcia D. Fisher
As we gain insight, we must also gain the ability to change.

Thank you for our kind word, Angela. The Lord called me to do this site and it is such an honor. I am humbled that so many visit the site and find information they will use for this very important time in their lives.

I am also very touched by the blessings people give me through their words and for the support! God is so good and there is great expectation for the New Year as thousands start it by prayer and fasting!

I hope the very best for you on your fast. Thank you for taking the time to write and share your thoughts.

Hi Precious Susan, Thank you for being obedient to God and providing this very indepth information for those of us who are wanting to Fast for spiritual reasons. I appreciate your response to my first comment, I wanted to say more but my mind is cluttered with “junk” due to many things – my daddy’s passing two months ago today and financial woes and life in general. That is why I am doing the Fast. Pastor Jentezen Franklin spoke about this Fast on Sunday and mentioned that if your life is in crisis – that Fasting is the best thing to do to see God’s provision clearer in your life. That is my hope and I have faith that this will come to pass. I need supernatural comforting and provisions. One thing I would like to ask you – I know this may sound crazy but I want to stay with the Fast for 21 days but want to know about medications and fiber suppliments that I take. I know the fiber has sugar in it and I don’t want to have any guilt over taking that suppliment. What is your advice regarding this for me? I appreciate you help and I am looking forward to beginning the Fast but I want to do it right with a heart toward being in tune with God and His Word for me. Thank you Susan for your help.

  5. December 31, 2007 at 12:39 pm

God bless you, Angela. And thank you for our kind words. They truly are sweet honey in my heart (sweet words are forever allowed on the Daniel Fast :-) ).

Suppliments and medications are ALWAYS allowed on the Daniel Fast. Any kind of fast should never bring harm to the body. That’s why I tell people who have special dietary needs to check everything out with their doctor and then make necessary adjustments.

Remember, the power is not in the food, but rather in the fact that you are fasting unto the Lord. I think we know in our hearts when we are being wise and when we are being “soulish.” Insisting on using honey becasue one doesn’t like their whole grain cereal without it is soulish. Whereas adding organic dairy products, chicken and fish to the Daniel Fast for a pregnant woman is wise.

Don’t even let guilt get near you about taking your suppliments and medicine. The sugar is minimal and serving an entirely different purpose.

I hope this helps and thank you again for all your kind support.

I just wanted to confirm that God is calling men and women to start the year off with a Daniel’s Fast because the other night while praying for my daughters I was reminded of a church that I attended in my early twenties that every January would commit to a churchwide Daniel’s Fast. My relationship with God has been very empty for the past several years due to a major disappointment, but I sensed this was His way of bringing me back to Him if I would commit to it. So thank you for the site. I will be blogging about my experience at my own blog http://www.thegreatdetox.blogspot.com

Thank you so much for your website. I found information that will help me with this journey. In 2008 I am claiming ALL THINGS because the Lord is waiting for us to ask. I want the Lord to conitue to bless me so I can bless others, because that’s what it is about (helping others). I want to get in my word more and make time to build a relationship with Him. I think we all spend more time on the internet or just watching tv than reading our WORD. I want to live right and I want everything I do to be pleasing in His sight because He see’s and knows everything. Let’s pray for each other as we pull through this journey of life. I’m thankful for this website.

    TO GOD BE THE GLORY!!!!!!

    Dear Susan,
This blog has blessed me tremendously. My church family started the Daniel Fast today and I have gained so much information about somethings that I was not sure about. This is our third year and it is so wonderful to learn new information. It is my desire to go higher in the Lord and know without any doubt when He is speaking to me. I will share this with my church family and plan to purchase both books.

    Peace and Blessings,

    Good morning Robbi,

Thank you so very much for your blessing to me! This whole site has been God-inspired and God-driven. My #1 desire is to serve Him by providing valuable information for His people during the fast.

His blessing to me is that I am able to be in touch with people all over the world who are seeking God in a deeper and more profound way — so much that they are all very serious about this amazing time of prayer and fasting.

God is so good! His love so amazing. And I truly believe He is preparing an army of faith-filled people for His next move! The year 2008 is one of New Beginnings! Old things have past away (or have been completed) and new things are here! Praise God!

I hope the very best for you on your fast and thanks again for your kind words.

Just found your blog. I started the 21-day fast yesterday — but I am not doing a Daniel fast. As I don’t normally eat meat — although I would certainly miss bread and especially coffee :-) — the Daniel fast is not dramatically different from my normal diet and I wanted this time to be definitely, clearly set apart – so I made up my own fast (fruit juice, vegetable juice, broth, herb tea, water). Anyhow, I’m wondering if I can still sign up on your site as a faster, though not a Daniel faster. If you’d rather I did not, I will still read and enjoy.

Most of the past several years I have struggled with physical illness. I started the fast and was hit with a torrent of emotional crap. I sought wise counsel and was actually told to modify the fast to keep my strength up and my legs strong. I do not want to be outside of the will of our God. Thank you for the blog site. Does the books have stuff for Gods less than perfect soldiers. I prefer to be the red cross of safety. Thank you though

    Hi Mary Anne,

Yes, the books have a lot of information that people find very helpful. Remember that the fast should bring you health and not harm. It’s a very healthy eating plan with fruits and vegetables and good sources of protein. Altering the fast to meet your physical needs is not a problem and it’s good that you go advice from your health provider.

Be well and I hope the best for you on the fast.

Our church is doing a corporate 21 day fast and this makes the third year that we have done this. It is so much more beneficial than our greatest sacrifice. You could never understand the magnitude of the results with explanation on experience. I am really enjoying all of your information and it is definately most helpful in answering the majority of my questions. The main one that I was not able to find an answer to is tortilla chips, all natural yellow corn, no preservatives added but it does have canola oil. Is canola oil ok? I really want to do this right just need direction. Thank you so much for your help. This is such a needed as well as an awesome ministry that you do.

  22. January 10, 2008 at 9:00 am

    Hi Susan,

The tortilla chips are probably okay unless they are “deep fried,” which is against Daniel Fast Guidelines. Otherwise, all the ingredients sound fine.

All quality oils can be used on the Daniel Fast.

Blessing to you on your fast.

ok here is my problem. I like foods like a five year old. Fruits – apple, banana, cantelope – thats it. veggies – broccoli, spinich, lettuce – thats it. I have been doing this for 3 days now and all I have had is banana, oatmeal, lettuce, cashews, juice (I know we shouldnt but I am too limited without it. ) Most of the other foods on the blog i dont like either. brown rice – yes – I just didnt know till I got here that it was allowed. if anyone has any suggestions for someone with such a limited menu, please let me know. I WILL last but I dont want to starve to death either. I am not overweight so I dont have room to lose. Also, we should remember all here on this blog in our fasting prayers. God bless you all.

  25. January 11, 2008 at 2:27 pm

    Hi Mags,

It’s hard to suggest foods, because it sound like you have reviewed the list and that you don’t like anything except those you listed. You could add rice cakes and peanut butter along with raisins. Also, sauteed veggies with tofu. Tofu is like cooked egg whites and soak up the flavors they are being cooked with so if you match the tofu with foods you like it’s a great way to get protein.

Also, you can do amazing things with salads . . . add every fruit and vegetable that you like and it could be very pleasant. How about soups? Granola? Celery with peanut butter? Stir fries with brown rice?

I also suggest that you add a multi-vitamin to your routine. Plus, pray. Ask the Lord to lead you in this area . . . He will show you what to do as you sincerely seek His face.

    Blessings to you.

I just kept Googling and the Lord led me to this site and a couple of others, but this is by far the most in-depth with such wonderful recipe ideas. My husband is such a huge meat eater, but he is coming along nicely. God is definitely providing us with plenty of ideas for meals and snacks from your site. Thanks for allowing God to use you in providing this Blog for the Body of Christ everywhere.

    Susan,
Thank you so much for this great informative and supportive site for Daniel Fasters and/or inquirers. Yesterday, I came across a scripture that was quoted from Isaiah 3 on your site regarding, “Why do you fast?”. I wanted to read the entire passage but was unable to find it in the bible or amongst the blogs on your site this morning. Please advise.
    Blessings, Blessings, Blessings,
    LaTanya

  28. January 13, 2008 at 5:47 am

    Good morning LaTanya,

I think you are referring to Isaiah 58 when the Lord was admonishing the people because while they were fasting, it was “all about them” and not at all about God.

Prayer and fasting must always be “unto the Lord.” Fasting is not about us, but rather about Him. It is seeking God and Hs face. If fasting is not unto the Lord, then it’s of no spiritual effect.

Blessings to you on your fast and thanks for the question.

    Dear Susan,

I praise God for you, and your heart to please Him. You are definietly a child of the Most High King. I have been doing the fast for 4 days now. I feel sooo good. Our church family is doing the Daniels fast as well, and there are some amazing things happening in our lives. Even though we are experiencing breakthroughs the enemy is still busy trying to distract us. I am ready and waiting on God. I am determined because I know that in Him I can do all things. Some people think that all things are just through the good, but it’s also through the bad and the ugly. I would just like to know while fasting how did/do YOU personally battle against negative conversation, and events that try to break you down in the wrong way. Especially when dealing with the people in your home or on the job?

  30. January 13, 2008 at 5:10 pm

    Hello Lavinia,

I know it’s hard to have negative voices around you. What I’ve learned is to share my spiritual life only with people who also know God. I am not talking about sharing the Gospel. Of course we are called to share the goodness of God with all. But when I am believing for something that I’ve already prayed about and have confirmation that it is within God’s will, the only ones I talk to about it are those who can agree with me in prayer and thanksgiving.

When I have a testimony, I share it with others. But I don’t ever tell non-believers or carna Christians about the things that I am waiting in faith to receive. Jesus teaches us that we can have whatever we ask for if we believe that we already have it. We need to guard our “believer” from the negative inputs of those who don’t have the faith to believe and open our “believer” to God’s Word and His people of faith.

I hope this helps . . . I hope the very best for you on your fast! Thank you for your kind words about this blog. It is my honor and blessing to be able to communicate with men and women all over the world as the walk through the fast and seek God’s face.

Thank you for taking time out to send me a answer to my question, but I apologize Susan, I should have explained my question a little bit better. I was talking about the negativity that the enemy brings in from other people that don’t know your fasting. I’m talking about when it seems like the people around you are being negative in what they do or say. And It is aimed at you… to distract you only. (It’s like a stumbling block in your way)

Just interested in people who started the Daniel Fast and had to quit for any reason. I have stomach issues and made the mistake of putting corn into a stir fry I was making and it sent me into a bad flare up. I had to go off the fast in order to get my stomach settled down. (Doesn’t that sound backwards!) I’m disapointed because I was looking to get deeper with God but feel I failed. I know I can get closer to God even when I’m not fasting but I only made it a week on the fast. Just wanted to know other people thoughts.

Hi. My church is Assembly of God. We are set to go on a corporate fast from Jan 21 – Feb 29th. I’m excited. I haven’t fasted but a few times and with little purpose, but this time I have so many purposes. For my church family to be Holy-Ghost filled and to go and make disciples. For salvation for family and the city where I live. For my granparents healing and to be together all the days God has given them. For deliverance from drug addiction for my sister’s husband. I want a closer walk with God. I want his perfect will for my life that I would do whatever he wants me to do. I know he’ll take care of my finances and everything else. I desire for God’s kingdom to come and his lost children to be found every single one! I pray that God will keep all of you strong, build your faith and bless you as only He can. Thanks for this website.

I was wondering if there are exeptions for children and teens in terms of dairy products? It seems that milk is a no go, but is there an exeption for that particular age group? just curious. My family is starting the Daniel fast soon and as we have never done it before we do have some questions. thanks

  35. January 21, 2008 at 10:21 am

    Hi Tash,

I am sorry for this late response. For some reason your comment got caught in the WordPress Spam file! I check it every few days and just this morning found your questions.

Children fit into a “special diet” category. Search the site for “teens” and you will find a post about how to approach this unique population. I think it would be totally appropriate for kids of all ages to restrict soda, candy, junk food and artificial foods. In that way, millk, cheese, chicken and fish can remain in their diets along with sandwiches and a lot of the foods that are typical for school lunches. Plus they will have all the protein they need.

This is a way a child can enter the fast, but not be so restrictive that they fail. The fast should be a good experience, draw one closer to the Lord, and never do any harm to the body.

Blessings to your family on the fast.

    Hello Pam,
I totally understand how u feel, but Trust me we serve a God that understands, he sees your heart and if u really had to get off for a few days because of sickness, and then get back on track , i think he understands. Just make sure you get back on track and finish your fast, and also Pray, ask for forgiveness and Divine intervention during this tempting times. One think we as believers have to face is temptations esp.. during this period when we are seeking a closer walk with God. So all i will say is GOD sees your heart and he know how much you are trying to seek him. Also don’t feel condemned, betrayed or worried, coz one thing and the devil will do is to make feel terrible and condemned. When your stomach gives u a chance get back and finish up your fast. Ask God to protect, direct and guide u; and he will.

    Hi Tecia,

Check with your doctor. The Daniel Fast is a very healthy eating plan and your doctor will likely be delighted that you are on such a healthy program. S/He may suggest that you include dairy and chicken, but otherwise, it’s a very healthy way to eat.

I hope the best for you and your family.

I have to say that I say this in faith, because it has started off a little rocky. I will still boast in the Name of the Lord. I have thought about the Daniel Fast several times in the last week. I have not attempted this fast before, but I am planning on pursuing it in the next few days. You have provided great information, so have other bloggers, i.e. reading the book of Daniel.
Thank you again and I would appreciate your prayers.

Hi Susan, I would like to know if I can do a Daniel fast because of my health problems and all the medication I take? I have copd, right side congested heart failure, and had a mild tia!(little stroke) our church is going to do a fast for the month of Feb. I try to cut down of alot of prepackaged food, eat fruits, frozen veggies, diet drinks, what ever you could offer me would be of a big help, thank you ever so much, always Elnora.

  41. January 26, 2008 at 11:30 pm

    Hello Elnora,

The Daniel Fast is a very healthy way of eating. But first, I strongly encourage you to talk to your doctor. Show him/her the food list and explain that it’s a 21-day commitment, but that you can eat as much as your body needs. S/he may want you to add animal protein in the form of fish or chicken. But otherwise it’s very healthy.

You will be doing your body a great service by cutting out all artificial chemicals, sugar and red meat. Also, keeping yourself will hydrated by drinking adequate water will be very good for you.

I hope this helps. Do you have the cookbook? I suggest that you get it as it will give you a good idea about the complete program.

    Bless you!

Can you drink a protein shake without violating the fast, using only water & fruit for flavor. Also I was thinking about doing this for 40 days during the upcoming Lenten season, is that too long or will I die from starvation!Ha!Ha!

  45. January 29, 2008 at 9:18 am

    Hi Chris,

The main thing about protein drinks is to READ THE LABEL to make sure it is sugar-free and chemical-free. If you then mix it with water and fruit, it would be totally acceptable on the fast.

Also, many people stay on the fast for 40 days with wonderful results. I do encourage you to get the Daniel Fast Cookbook (available on this site) as it’s full of lots of recipes and hints for your fast.

    Blessings go you!

    Good afternoon,
I am presently taking chemotharpy. My first treatment was a few days after I started the fast. I had to stop and go on the BRATS diet becase of dirreah. This is really a request for agreement for healing accordance to Matthew 16:19 where two or more people agree on touching anything, It will be given to them. The pastor and the elders have prayed for me. My sins are forgiven and I am clean, clean, clean. The Blood of Jesus has been applied inside and out. Sickness and the devil has been told to be gone in the name of Jesus, I AM is greater in me than what the devil can put on me. I am healed from the top of my head to the tip of my toes. I am called The Healed at my church. Fisherman and Hunter. I enjoy life and I will not quit.

    Bless you Ted!

Remember that Jesus in your Healer and every knee (including cancer) must bow at His Name!

    You are in my prayers,

My husband and I are preparing to start the Daniel Fast and wonder if Ezekiel 4:9 bread is okay on the fast?

  49. January 31, 2008 at 8:19 am

    Hi Donna,

No, all leavened bread is off limits for the Daniel Fast. That’s because of the descriptions of Daniel’s fasting in Chapters 1 and 10. In Chapter 1 he ate only vegetables. In Chapter 10 he ate no pleasant foods (some translations say pleasant breads). Also, in Jewish dietary laws, leavening is a symbol for sin, that’s why all leavening is removed from homes and not consumed at Passover.

I hope this helps and that your fast is a great blessing to you.

    Susan,

Thank you for your obedience in answering the call of full time Christian writing and I pray for God’s continual blessings upon your life with this spirit-led endeavor. I know it was not an accident that I came across your blog as I was searching for information concerning the Daniel Fast. My church began a 40-day fast, starting on February 10th. Although my pastor only asked us to give up refined sugar, I knew that the Spirit of God was calling me to another level in fasting. I had always needed meat with every meal but God began to take that desire away just before the 10th and I have completed the first week, with an even greater desire to please Him and learn of the secret things He has in store. Thank you for giving me the much needed info to do the fast for which I was called and I’m truly enjoying my appointments with my Friend as I pray, listen, and read the WORD more day by day.

    Hi Pamela,

Thank you for your very kind words. I receive them as a pleasant blessing from a sister in Christ.

Writing for the Daniel Fast and for Lack Attack is my blessing from the Lord. He is so good to have uprooted me from my other work and then transplant me back to writing and ministry! He loves us so much!

God bless you on your fast! Please stay in touch.

Thank you for the website. I have just completed 3 days of fasting (water only) and I want to continue the next 18 days with the Daniel fast. I’ve heard people mention it before, but never really knew what it entailed. I’ve been searching the iternet for a day or so looking for guidance to do this Daniel Fast and I have not come around anything so complete and useful as this website. Its awesome and I’ve saved it to my favorites. I also had questions about eggs, yogurt, and other items and thanks to the blogs, my questions were answered. My desire during this fast is to go deeper in God. I’m no longer satisfied with being in the inner court, I want to be in the Holy of Holies where God resides. Although I’ve struggled a bit with the physical effects of the fast, I believe that God will glorify himself. God IS better than food!!

  57. February 20, 2008 at 5:06 pm

Thanks for your great message, Wanda. And thanks for your kind words. My blessing is to take care of this site.

Have a great fast! Keep in touch!

    Hey Susan,
Thanks for the website. I read about the whole wheat and whole grain pasta. I Read the Labels and thanks for sharing that all important hint. After checking all the ingredients there was a statement that said it was made in facility that uses eggs. there wasn’t any eggs listed. It is Ronzoni Healthy Harvest 7 grain Blend Pasta, Fusilli. What do you think? is it okay?
    Thanks again.

  59. February 21, 2008 at 1:10 pm

    Hi Sandi,

I’m glad you’ve found the amazing truth about reading labels. I am regularly shocked at all the ingredients in foods! This has become a common practice for me now as I don’t need all those chemicals and the sugar in my body!

Regarding the comment on the pasta box, “made in a facility that uses eggs” – my guess is that they add that for people who have violent reactions from even specs of egg in their system. It would be like peanuts and other foods that can cause severe reactions and even death.

So, you are fine . . . don’t worry about eggs being used in the same plant.

Blessings to you on your fast.

Dear, this has encouraged me to start fasting and today, on 21 day fast, I am so like looking forward to it. The only challenge I have is what kind of food I should eat, here in Zimbabwe, not much choice. We have pap made of grinded mealie corn, is this okay to have, we do eat a lot of meat which I think would be a big change for me. I have shared with my husbanda about this and he is going to stand with me.

  63. June 2, 2008 at 11:14 am

    Bless you Kaluba,

Yes, corn meal is fine on the Daniel Fast. I sent you an email and included the Daniel Fast Food List. I have been in many countries in Africa, but never Zimbabwe. I know there is a lot of strife and poverty there. So this is a good time to seek the Lord

Like many of the others bloggers who have posted before me, I am new to fasting. Our church is currently on Day 8 of a 21 Day Daniel Fast. When I began I was very encouraged and eager to fast. Prior to starting our fast we studied and learned so much about fasting and praying. I felt prepared, but yesterday I broke my fast and now I feel extremely guilty. I don’t know how to bounce back or if it’s even possible. I feel spiritually schizoid right now. I feel like I can do this and I want to do this but in the very next moment I feel like its impossible. I was seeking to become closer to God and more in tune with Him and His purpose for my life, but now I am feeling like a complete disappointment to Him. Please Help, any guidance will be greatly appreciated.

  65. July 1, 2008 at 11:47 am

    Hi Shaun,

Looks like your flesh won this battle, but your spirit can still win the war!

Get right back on board with your fast and accept the lesson that your flesh is not a very good leader for you! That’s why we need to crucify it and walk in the spirit.

I encourage you to see this as a powerful and very useful life lesson. There are other times when your spirit and flesh will war against each other. This time it was over food! You see in this perfect example that you need to control your flesh by putting your spirit in charge . . . and walk by the Spirit allowing God’s wisdom to be your guide. Your flesh (soul) is where your cravings, feelings, intellect and emotions reside. But your spirit is that born again part of you that believes and trusts God.

Sometimes we need to treat our flesh like an unruly child and get it under control! That’s the lesson in this for you! I know you have it in you to win this battle.

God is not disappointed in you. He doesn’t measure His love or approval of you on what YOU do, but rather on what CHRIST did!

So brush yourself off, wash of the guilt (that comes from the enemy, by the way), and get back into the battle. But this time, put your spirit in charge and move on stronger, in control and walking in the Spirit.

    Be blessed!

But I know the Lord has a plan!!!
I guess I’m looking to all the support I can get through this…
It all started with a dream…
Are any kind of crackers allowed?
Thanks again and I hole to be able to let you know how things go..
    Blessings

  72. September 15, 2008 at 9:06 am

    Peace to you, Marcia.

I too have a challenge giving up coffee — but for fasting purposes that’s good! We need the challenge so we can experience what it means to have our spirit take control of our flesh (or soul). Also, if you are a regular and frequent coffee-drinker, you might experience withdrawals. Drink lots of water, take about 2000mg vitamin C and increase your intake of potassium-rich foods. The symptoms should go away within a few days (headaches, leg cramps, fatigue, etc.).

About crackers: you will need to READ THE LABELS to see if the ingredients include sweetener or leavening of any kind or chemicals. If so, they are NOT okay for the Daniel Fast. My favorite crunch stand-by is rice cakes. I buy the brown rice variety and use them as snacks or add 100% peanut butter and raisins for breakfast. Yumm!

Blessings to you and your fast and please stay in touch!

Hi all. I am into day 7 of my first 40 day fast – God is so lifting me up, praise Him! I am doing my own fruit and veg juices and taking psyllium, so a bit more than a daniel fast as I felt God lead me, but am getting nutrients along the way. I have one question – my tongue has developed a white coating and whilst I have read that this may happen, no-one seems to say what causes it or how long it will last. The internet is a scary place for self-diagnosis and I just wondered if anyone had any experiential information for me? Should I be worried about it or is it just some detox thing? Thanks! PS – love your site…our church in Perth, Western Australia has a season of 21 days repentance, prayer and fasting each year for our city, state, nation, all the nations…totally with you in many of your comments. May God’s kingdom come!

  74. September 16, 2008 at 6:29 pm

    G’day Katherine,

I was on a working assignment in Sydney many moons ago. Never got to Perth, but I loved my time in Aussieland. I was there for six months and it was glorious!

The tongue issue is not common with the Daniel Fast, but is common with juice fasting. It’s a sign of detoxing and is just one of the ways the body eliminates unwanted stuff from the system. It usually lasts only a week or so, but for some people it can last while you are fasting and a few days beyond.

I always encourage people to call their health professionals if they are concerned. Listen to your spirit . . . if there is a spark of caution, then make the call. But this is a common symptom for those on a juice fast and it’s part of the detox process.

Be blessed and thanks for writing!

We have just started our 2nd Daniel fast this year…the 1st one was the 21 Daniel Fast, now we are doing a 40 day fast while still using the Daniel Fast guidelines. What a blessing this site has been as well as your cookbook! I’m hispanic so I have modified some of your recipes to give them a Mexican flare for our palate! This site is such a blessing & encouragement! So keep blogging! Thank you for sharing what you have learned I know your knowledge has saved me time & cleared up any confusion about this fast.

PS….do you keep count on how many times you write “READ THE LABEL”….I find myself repeating those words often to those new to the Daniel Fast! For a second I image myself “Susan Gregory” lol…. Blessings!

  78. September 26, 2008 at 2:46 pm

    Hi Sandra,

Thanks so much your lovely post. I am so blessed by this site and that the Lord gave me this ministry. It’s all a gift and I really purpose to give people helpful information as they seek to come closer to the Lord.

I cracked up when I read your question about READ THE LABEL. I haven’t counted, but I know those words are all over this blog. The great news is the people are learning that food manufacturers add all kinds of sweeteners and chemicals to their foods and they never knew it before. I hear from many who tell me the Daniel Fast has changed their eating habits forever, now that they realize the ingredients in prepared foods.

Congratulations on your current fast. I hope the very best for you. This is truly a powerful and needful time for prayer and fasting. Please stay in touch. I am very interested to see what the Lord reveals to you. I also might tap into your cooking creativity to see how you Tex-Mex your recipes.

    Blessing to you, dear one!

But as I searched other sites something in my spirit kept telling me to come back to this one. I read your introduction & I have to tell you it was right on time for me. The things you said really spoke to my heart. This is not my first fast, but it has been some time since I have done any kind of fasting. I haven’t exactly been walking with the Lord the last couple of years. My family & I have been through some extreme loss & devistation during this time. It has been a real struggle for me & my walk with God! We just relocated & found a church that is starting the Daniel Fast tomarrow, we thought we would plan to be involved in it. Thats where your web-site comes in. I’m looking forward to this fast & the information I am obtaining from your site.
Thank you for sharing & being such a blessing!

I downloaded and actually looked at both publiations. I copied them to my documents, separately. This morning, I find that I only have 2 copies of the journal. What did I do wrong and how can I get a copy of the cookbook now? I realize that this is technical, but, I could find no phone number on this site or the wordpress site that could help. Are there ways to get enough calcuim, for example, while nursing and doing a Daniel fast? Or is a Daniel fast something better done while not pregnant or breastfeeding?

    • February 6, 2009 at 7:33 pm

      Hi Kate,

The Daniel Fast is very healthy and can have lots of calcium. However, you need extra nutrients so it is appropriate for you to enter the fast, but adjust the eating plan to meet your needs. Check with your health provider to be sure, but adding cheese, fish and chicken would be totally appropriate.

      I hope this helps.

I am only a couple days into my Daniel fast and was lamenting as I fixed pizza for my family. I had only been eating veggies and water when I prayed for God to give me something he approved of that would better than that pizza because I did not want to put pizza before my covenant with him. I then thought I might goggle Daniel fast and found that I could have fruit and nuts on you site. What a blessing. I love almonds and love your site. I think hanging with this slew of comments and others experiencing similar experience will get me through my other 18 days. GOD IS GOOD! Can’t wait to see what lies ahead!

Hello to all my Christians friends
I wish I could explain to myself and others what is happening to me at this time but it is so refreshing and my body, soul, and spirit is totally adorned.I know that God loves me now more than ever and that He is alive and living in my heart. This is now my third day into my Daniel Fast and tomorrow I will begin to eat food again but only foods that are recommended for this diet. In the last hour have I heard the Spirit remind me of the jealousy of God because I have abused His temple. My spirit has been grieved because I have made food an idol rather than trusting and believing that I could do all things through He that strengthens. I had not planned this for me it is something that just happened or should I say started on its own. I went to bed Sunday night with the notion that I would try to fast Monday which I must say was hard but I did it. So then I decided that I would try it longer like maybe until six the next day, then I decided that I would complete the second day and now I am on my third day. It is totally a testimony how I happend to find this site because I started the fast before I found the book and I just know that God did it all. I found a book in my daughter’s car that she said I could have and it was one of yours. So now I will after today (three days of total consecration) do the next 18 with pleasure and peace. I feel as if God has taken me already to a higher level of His grace. I am a Sunday school teacher and just love praising my God daily. He is my everything and praise is what I do. I love Him and at this moment His love is flowing in and through my inner being. I will write more then next time but now its time to read and get filled with His delicious food. It really is filling and when we read it it fills us. I’ve tried it many times and it works. I send love and peace to all who love and awaits His glorious Coming. In His Love, Ollie Hill

I have to personally thank Him first and then you for this time in my life. It is as you say a time of renewing and strengthing with His people and there is more that He requires of us. I now know that and am just waiting for my assignment(s) to be revealed and manisfested. He has waited and ripened me for what-ever His plan is for my life and I am ready to heed His calling. I am a Breast Cancer survival and wrote a book of our plight together. I feel that I am totally healed and just had to share with others just how just and miraculous God still is. My book title is: GOD’S GOT BREAST CANCER and can be found on the internet (Amazon.com) and other web sites. Might I suggest to anyone who has a friend or know someone who needs to be encouraged or inspired in such a time as this to purchase and read this one becuase God himself wrote it. He only use me as His pen and paper. Well got to go for sure this time. His word is waiting. Again I totally love all of you, In His Love Forever, Ollie Hill

    Why is tofu okay?

      Hi LaWanna,

Tofu is okay because it is plant-based. It is made only of soybeans, however one should read the label to make sure the manufacturer has not added other ingredients that would not be consistent with the Daniel Fast.

      Thanks for your question.

Thanks for the info. It’s good to know that the choices are many on the Daniel fast. But it almost feels like cheating if i eat all the categories of food you mentioned (esp. rice etc.).

      Good morning Amira,

The Daniel Fast does include a lot of different foods, but it is still restrictive enough that most people can experience the powerful spiritual benefits of prayer and fasting. However, each person’s fasting is different. If you feel eating rice is “cheating” for you, then leave it out of your diet for the Daniel Fast. I encourage you to seek the input of the Holy Spirit as you pray about the fast. Ask Him to guide you as you select the foods you will include. He is the best guide and will help you with your food selections.

      Be blessed on your fast.
