Susan Gregory, The Daniel Fast http://daniel-fast.com

Hi Friends,

My name is Susan Gregory – a.k.a. The Daniel Fast Blogger. I’m writing today because so many people think this weblog is the work of some big company or ministry . . . so I wanted to introduce myself to you because we are becoming a grassroots community of everyday Christian men and women who want to deepen our relationship with Christ. This last year was been one of great transition for me (I know many of you are saying, “Me, too!”). I believe this has been a pruning period (see Matthew 15:2) and also a time when God gave me my appointment to return to Christian writing. In that appointment, came an assignment . . . to help get the word out about the Daniel Fast.

On December 4, 2007 I started this blog. I have fasted many times and used the Daniel Fast for longer fasts. So I just started writing about what I knew and also tapped into the many resources I have available to me in my personal faith-building library.

The first day the blog had 7 hits. But within a week the daily count was more than 600 hits. And within 10 days the hit count was just short of 1000. I started hearing from readers asking questions and I could see the kind of information people were seeking. That’s why I wrote The Daniel Fast for the Body, Soul and Spirit and later The Daniel Fast Cookbook – Version I.

Words are not adequate to express the deep and very heart-felt appreciation I have for all of you who have purchased the books. You truly are making it possible for me to abandon all other work so that I can give all my focus to obeying God and the assignment He has for me.

The year 2007 was one of the most difficult of my life . . . and I praise God for His goodness and for being right beside me as I have learned more and more about “fighting the good fight of faith.” I know many of you know exactly what I am talking about, because you also have had to battle the strongholds that have tried to crush us. The enemy’s only goal is to steal, kill and destroy God’s people. But as we stand firm on God’s Word and His promises . . . we will overcome.

I believed with all my heart that 2008 was a new beginning. That the strongholds were coming down  . . . and that there were great battles going on in the heavenly realms (read Daniel 10).  God was so faithful. Here I am now in the midst of the victory with even more blessings to come! And even now, I don’t think it’s a coincidence that thousands of Christian men and women are hearing that still small voice in their spirit telling them to pray and fast.

God is good. He loves us with an immeasurable love. And He is ALWAYS victorious. As we abide in Him . . . and we enter into His Secret Place and dwell in the Almighty . . . then we have access to a realm that the world doesn’t even know exists. I can only believe that God is raising up an army of warriors to make His Light shine in the darkness.

It is no coincidence that you are reading these words even now . . . God is ministering to you as He is to tens of thousands of others. He is calling us! As we draw near to Him, He draws near to us . . . and He wants us close so that He can love us, care for us, and use us!

I am looking forward to a glorious year! And I am so glad that God has given me this honor to be able to interact with so many others who also are heeding the call of our Lord.

I am starting my Daniel Fast today. I am 64 years old and my Prayer is that this Fast will help me financially clear up my debt, closer relationship with God, follow his leading clearly and improve my health by a total break free for Sugar! Hallelujah! Please include me on your prayer list that this will be my new beginning with Christ this 2018 year!

If you can send me any free materials to help me on my journey it will be greatly appreciated.

  3. All whole grains are allowed on the fast. You can also have bean and rice, whole grain noodles, etc.

Be sure to follow the fast as I teach it. It’s all well-researched and safe.

  4. Fasting should never bring harm to your body. The Daniel Fast is a very healthy way to eat. I hope you’re using what I teach here. There is a lot of erroneous information “out there” so be sure to follow the healthy way to fast.

    Be blessed!

Hi, Ma’am Susan! Thank you so much for sharing what you know about Daniel Fast. I am blessed with your obedience! 🙂

I’m now on my 7th day of fasting, but just this morning, my body started shaking and I started vomiting. I decided to eat rice and pause my fast. I also drank a soda because water didn’t seem to work. I feel better now. Was it a good idea?

Should we continue fasting if we start vomiting?

I rarely drink coffee, so I don’t think it was a caffeine- withdrawal. But I am a rice-person, really. I rarely eat vegetables. Daniel Fast is helping me get rid of that rice addiction. I often eat two or three cups of rice every lunch and dinner.

I would definitely appreciate your response!

Hi, Ma’am Susan! Thank you so much for writing about Daniel Fast. I am blessed with your obedience! I’m having my Daniel Fast now and I’m on my 7th day. But today, I was vomiting and my body’s shaking. I decided to pause the fast and eat rice. Did I do it right? If one starts to vomit during the fast, should he continue the fast?

I don’t usually drink coffee but I’m a rice-person so eating vegetables and fruits is hard for me.

  13. This is all covered in detail in the book I wrote. Here is a brief explanation: Introduce the foods slowly . . . especially meat, cheese, fatty foods, sugar, and caffeine. Also, learn from your experience and bring those lessons into you everyday life.

    Be blessed.

  15. Hi Karen,

First, are you following the fasting guidelines in the way I teach it? If so, you should be very healthy – most likely healthier and feeling more energetic than you usually do. UNLESS you are suffering from caffeine withdrawal. So that may be the issue. If so, it will pass in a few days. Drink plenty of water to help with the detox.

Hi Susan! In the Word it clearly states that Daniel and Co were stronger and healthier on/after the Daniel fast. I’m as weak as a kitten… What am I doing wrong?

Hi I wanted to know if sprouted tortillas are ok to eat on the fast these are the ingredients: organic sprouted whole wheat berries, organic whole wheat flour, water, unrefined safflower oil, and sea salt. Thank you.

  19. Jenny,

I can guarantee you that all kinds of erroneous information is out there and widely available. I feel bad about that because so many unknowing people follow that advice. It takes only a second to look on Amazon at the flood of Daniel Fast books that have been published in the last couple years. Even the cover photos include foods not allowed on the fast like muffins, chicken, coffee, etc.

Be wise . . . and also ask yourself why is using the cocoa so important to you?

Fasting is a great time to learn about God, ourselves, and our faith!
