Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink.” Daniel 1:12

“In those days I, Daniel, was mourning three full weeks. I ate no pleasant food, no meat or wine came into my mouth, nor did I anoint myself at all, till three whole weeks were fulfilled.” ——Daniel 10:2, 3

DFfbWelcome! The purpose of this site is to offer valuable and complete information about the Daniel Fast. As the Daniel Fast Blogger, my #1 goal is to help you have a successful fasting experience. More and more Christian men and women are choosing the Daniel Fast as their guideline to enter into the spiritual discipline. While the Daniel Fast is a partial fast, (rather than total abstention from all food) it still provides many of the attributes of denying the self and seeking God.

This blog is designed as a “gathering place” for information and resources about the Daniel Fast to serve those seeking God in this manner. Please “cruise” the blog. Remember, this is a blog format, so you will need to page down to see all the posts. Also, leave comments if you have ideas, questions, or comments.

Also, join our Facebook community! It’s a powerful way to stay connected to others who are seeking God through an extended period of prayer and fasting.

When it comes to TV watching i would strongly encourage people to spent time in meditation and prayer instead of watching TV….sadly one has to admit that there isn’t a lot of inspiration in TV shows these days!!! 😦

  7. No honey as it’s a sweetener and no sweeteners on the Daniel Fast.

I encourage you to join our group. I produce a daily video lesson and lesson sheet that are very popular. Click here: http://daniel-fast.com/daniel-fast-2017/

  8. It means that the list is not exhaustive. For example, if a vegetable is not on the list but is a vegetable, then you’re okay. So many different foods throughout our world. 🙂

  9. Smoothies are allowed when used as liquid meals. I suggest you add some soft nuts like pecans, walnuts, or pumpkin seeds to add protein.

    Be blessed.

  10. Yes, if it is free of sweeteners and chemicals, you can use it in recipes. Read the list of ingredients.

  12. Yes, you can do all those things. You just want to check your heart and your motives. If you are telling people you are fasting to serve your ego and your flesh, then Jesus says we already have our reward (ouch). But if people ask and you explain with a pure heart about the fast, all is well.

  13. Yes, if the cheese is free of sweeteners and chemicals; and for the chips if they are baked and not deep fried. But before your search for a suitable “cheese” I do challenge you check in with the Holy Spirit inside of your and see if you are catering to the flesh rather than entering this time to deepen your relationship with Him.

  26. The only beverage on the Daniel Fast is water. You can use unsweetened plant-based milks as an ingredient in recipes or on cereal.

    Be blessed

  27. Hi Yessenia, please read this article about What Happens if You Break or Quit the Fast?

This will help. Be blessed and it’s so great that you are learning about yourself in this experience with the Lord.

  28. That would be allowed as it’s added as a nutrient (good on you for the research, by the way).

Be blessed on your fast. 🙂

  29. Yes, you can use dates or have them as a snack. Now here is the fine line. There are a lot of people who, during the Daniel Fast, use dates to make a sweetener. That is degradation of the fast as the purpose is to “get around the restrictions.” I know this may seem like a fine line. But it’s really all about the heart and why we make the choices we make. When we compromise, we are hurting ourselves. And when we “get around the restrictions” on the fast we are catering to the flesh rather than walking in the Spirit. The Bible calls that carnal and immature.

With all that said (sorry about my soapbox message, but I see so much of this “out there”) use dates in oatmeal or as a snack. But don’t make them into sweeteners so you don’t have to deny the flesh.

    I hope this helps.

  30. Yes, all plant-based milks that are free of sweeteners and chemicals are allowed on the fast.

    Be blessed

  31. No leavening is allowed on the fast.

Also, why are you looking for a brownie recipe? No sweeteners are allowed on the fast, plus the purpose of fasting is to “restrict food for a spiritual purpose.” Don’t miss out on the immense spiritual blessings you can have by feeding the flesh. That’s what fasting is all about, not just eating different ingredients.

    I hope this helps.

    January 7, 2017
  32. Modifying the fast for health purposes is acceptable. Pray about the changes you want to make. Seek the Holy Spirit’s guidance.

    January 7, 2017
  33. Patricia, thanks for sharing your heart with us. You are not alone and your message will help others.

First, let me say that you will be immensely blessed on the fast. So keep your focus on the blessing rather than the challenge. Focus on the light rather than the dark.

And then, make your meals really simple and be prepared. There are so many complex recipes out there on the internet for people to use during the Daniel Fast. But sadly, most are positioned so people can cater for the flesh and therefore divert the from the powerful spiritual experience that you can have. Instead, make a big pot of soup or vegetarian chili, eat oatmeal with dried or fresh fruit for breakfast. Raw nuts for snacks. Salads, soups, stews, casseroles that you can cook and then eat for several meals. Keep your meals simple and you will do well.

Now you are free to focus your time in God’s Word and be feed by the Bread of Life that He so generously serves.

  34. A couple of things. If the ingredients are all plant-based and include no chemicals or sweeteners than technically the meat alternative would be acceptable. However there is another point to consider. When people substitute so they don’t need to “give up” foods they like, they are missing one of the most valuable blessings and lesson opportunities of the fast. We are denying the flesh on a fast so we can focus more on the Spirit. So you may want to pass on the Quorn.

    I hope this helps.

Hi Susan or everyone… At the time I wrote this I felt desperate. Over time in today I am relax but still earnestly seeking to engage in this FAST!
    EARLIER Today 5 Jan 2017 2:31A
This is my 300th attempt to get serious about my relationship with God and my third try at successfully engaging in the Daniel Fast. I know that I am drawn to your help by the guidance of the Holy Spirit and I jump riight on board in purchasing your Daniel Fast book online via Amazon.com — reading it slowly, hanging on every word suggested to make this attempt to complete the 21 day fast my most desired and deserved accomplishment this new year.
Taking this commitment seriously will require consistent prayer for me. I have a difficult time staying focused. I work as a live-in carer, 24 hours per day with down time or personal time from 10p -7A daily. Sometimes I get relief time for weekend off from Friday night to Sunday night! There is so much chance in that time to FAIL MY FAST! By this I mean I slip mentally and forget 8n the moment while preparing and serving food and drinks to those I serve that I taste meals to be sure they are pleasing to my patients. If I do, then I abhort my Fast as FAILED and I do not want to FAIL. So tired of failing!
I write this as a journal note to chart my journey. By the end of the 21 days, with the help of the Lord God, I should achieve several things– starting with staying focused to set appointment time and place with God, leaning into hear Him so clearly that I am assured and confident that I am living and loving my purpose–caring for others as well, increasing effectual fervent prayers instantly praying for all things and an unwaivering boldness of Faith, and lastly cure my negative self talk which I surmise should vanish!
This is the short list of the specific goals I desire. In a nut shell..
Lord God make me over again? I am 60+ and in pretty good health. He didnt keep me well for this long for nothing. He promises to draw near…I am throwing up my hands and surrendering all I know I am!!! LoveUmore. Patrician
